Toyokawa Inari, one of Japan’s Three Great Inari Shrines, located in Aichi Prefecture. Boasting one of Japan’s largest numbers of worshippers, it attracts many visitors from both within Japan and abroad. On Saturday, 27th September 2025, the Toyokawa Inari Nishimoto Yuki Art Museum, a museum dedicated to ink wash painting, will open within the Toyokawa Inari shrine grounds (former Temple Treasure Hall). The inaugural exhibition will be a special exhibition of Yuki Nishimoto’s works themed around ‘Epochs’. Nishimoto’s artistic world resonates with the spirituality of Toyokawa Inari. The pride of the warrior, the aesthetics of challenge, symbols of protection, the vitality of life. Each narrative harmonises with “prayer” and ‘connection’.
Gate of Protection
The “A-un Fox” welcomes visitors and guides them into the sacred space.
As one passes through the pentagonal gate, dragons—symbols of power, prosperity, and protection—dance and soar, opening the door to a new world.
Bonds forged through faith
Toyokawa Inari, revered as the deity of advancement by both samurai and commoners. The powerful “samurai” depicted by Nishimoto Yuki gather here, where light and shadow filtering through bamboo groves reveal the pride and spirit of the warrior class.
Sacred White
The power of prayer dwelling within “white”. Sacred ink paintings by Yuki Nishimoto, alongside special white robes and kasaya robes inscribed with prayer. Traditional Mikawa silk radiates elegance, reflecting the light of prayer within stillness.
