[Special Place of Scenic Rikugien] Experience making Edo Uchiwa while learning about the history and techniques of traditional crafts

At the Special Place of Scenic Rikugien, we will welcome a traditional craftsman on Saturday, July 23, 2022, and hold a hands-on course on making the traditional craft “Edo Uchiwa” that has continued since the Edo period.
This summer, at Rikugien Garden, which is full of history and greenery, you can rediscover the charm of Japanese culture by making a tasteful “Edo Uchiwa”.

<Lecturer Profile>
The 4th generation of Otaya of Uchiwa.
“Edo Uchiwa” has been made in Edo (Yanaka) since before the late Edo period, and Otaya is currently producing “made in Japan” in Boshu, the supply area for uchiwa materials.
In recent years, he has also participated in “picture uchiwa” works in collaboration with companies and Tokyo hand-painted Yuzen, and is also focusing on the spread and succession of Boshu uchiwa.
