Due to the popularity of the exhibition “Daikakuji Temple, Former Saga Palace: New Flowers and Paintings Related to the Palace,” which will be held at the Heiseikan of the Tokyo National Museum from Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the museum will be open at night. In addition, from Tuesday, February 18, a limited-edition novelty gift will be distributed to visitors who purchase exhibition merchandise for 4,000 yen or more, including tax.

Outline of the Special Exhibition “Former Saga Palace, Daikakuji Temple - New Currents: Paintings Related to the Palace -” commemorating the 1,150th anniversary of the temple's founding.
This exhibition will be held at the Tokyo National Museum to commemorate the 1,150th anniversary of the founding of Daikakuji Temple in Kyoto in 2026, and will showcase a wide range of outstanding temple treasures. In addition to more than 120 paintings, including “Peonies” and “Red and White Plum Blossoms” (both Important Cultural Treasures) by Kano Sangaku, a representative painter of the Azuchi-Momoyama – Edo period, calligraphies by emperors that tell the story of faith, and masterpieces of esoteric Buddhist art, such as “Godai Myoo” by Meien, a representative Buddhist statue of the late Heian period (Important Cultural Treasure), are also on display. Also on display for the first time in Tokyo in the same case are two “brother swords” handed down from generation to generation in the Seiwa Genji clan, including Minamoto no Mitsunaka, Yoshitsune, and Yoritomo, namely the sword brand name “□tada” (famous “Hizamaru”) and “Yasutsuna” (famous “Onikirimaru”) (both Important Cultural Property).

From Tuesday, February 18, visitors to the exhibition who purchase exhibition merchandise for 4,000 yen or more including tax will receive a special tatou (paper file with pocket, limited to 5,000 copies) with the inscriptions “Tachi Mei □tada (famous sword ‘Usu-green’ [Knee Maru])” and “Tachi Mei Yasutsuna (famous sword ‘Onikirimaru’ [Hagegiri])” on the inside.
