Hand-painted ‘Pokémon Zodiac Small Bowls’
These ‘Pokémon Zodiac Small Bowls’ are crafted from natural wood and lacquered, featuring Pokémon designs created using the traditional ‘maki-e’ technique. As they are made from natural wood and lacquered, these bowls remain cool to the touch even when filled with piping hot miso soup, making them safe for children to use. Furthermore, their low foot design helps prevent spills, making them a popular choice for baby tableware.
With the hope that children will grow up to be resilient and eventually run the world, we have depicted a Ponyta, which runs faster and faster as it chases after its mother.
Every stage of the process, from the raw timber to the finished lacquered bowl, is carried out by hand.
This includes ‘wood turning’, where the raw wood is shaped into the form of the vessel; ‘lacquering’, which involves carefully applying, polishing and drying the lacquer whilst strictly controlling temperature and humidity; and ‘maki-e’, a traditional technique that involves sprinkling gold powder onto the lacquered surface to create a lustrous finish.
Every single step involved in creating these Pokémon Zodiac small bowls is carried out by hand.
