The Izu Inatori Hot Springs Hina no Tsuridashi Festival will be held from January 20 (Sat) to March 31 (Sun), 2024. The “Cultural Park Hina no Yakata” will be the main venue of the festival, where visitors can enjoy Inatori’s unique creations, which are considered one of the three most famous tsurushi decorations in Japan.
[Main Venue] Cultural Park Hina no Yakata
This is the main venue for the tradition of Hina no Tsurushi decoration to be handed down to the present day. The jumbo tsurushi decorations (6,409 pieces) and jumbo hina tan (17 tiers) that form the main part of the museum are a sight to behold! Dragon Boat Vine Decorations, Sagemon from Yanagawa, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Kasa Fukushi from Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture, which are said to be the three most famous vine decorations in Japan, are also on display.

On display are Kohinohina dolls from the Edo period (1603-1868) owned by Aramise (store name), which manages the exhibition hall. These dolls were brought by Princess Sume of the Matsuura family, a former feudal lord of Hirado (Nagasaki), when she made a visit to the Inagaki family, the feudal lord of Toba.

This is a form of decoration similar to that used in ordinary private homes in Inatori. Visitors can also see the graceful “Phoenix Pine”, a 200-year-old tree in the shape of a large bird, which is designated as a natural monument by the town of Higashi Izu. During the period, visitors can experience mandarin orange picking (fee required). (Fee required).

The shrine is the chief Shinto shrine of Inatori. The “Ema-den” where the Hina no Tsuridori decorations are displayed is dedicated to the children’s Sanbaso dance at the annual festival in July every year. This year, the Inatori High School Clothing and Food Department presented the display.

Susanow Shrine Hina-dan decoration
Susanoo Shrine was founded in 1617. Hina dolls and vines are displayed on the 118 steps of the shrine as a guardian of Inatori and the sea.
