From January 20, 2024 (Sat) to March 10, 2024 (Sun), the Hotel Gajoen Tokyo is holding the “Millennium Hina Meguri: Thoughts Passed Down from Heian to Modern Times – Hyakudan Hina Matsuri 2024” at the Hotel Gajoen Tokyo.
This year’s exhibition, the first in four years, is a spectacular showcase of 1,300 dolls, from period-traveling masterpieces to doll decorations that have taken root in the local community, as well as doll implements and craftwork.

＜Iizuka Hina Festival (Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture): A stunning picture scroll of the Heian period＞
The former Ito Den’emon Residence, the main venue for the festival held in Iizuka City from February to March and an Important Cultural Property of Japan, is decorated with numerous hina dolls. The most eye-catching of these, the “Zashiki Hina” dolls, are displayed under a different theme each year. This year, the former Ito residence and Hotel Gajoen Tokyo will be linked, inviting visitors to a world of elegant Heian picture scrolls.

Visitors can enjoy the world of “Seiko Hina Monogatari,” dolls created by Shiga Prefecture doll maker Tounoko, who hopes that the beauty of Lake Biwa will be known by as many people as possible.
Stare into the eyes and enjoy the tiny world
Hina-dog researcher Yumiko Kawauchi has been collecting tiny hina dolls and hina-dogu for many years. From the famous Edo store “Nanasawaya” to the most exquisite miniature porcelain and glass, more than 2,000 items will be displayed in a tiny world of delight for the eyes.
