Kyoto Okazaki Tsutaya Bookstore (Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) will host the solo exhibition ‘COME TO LIFE’ by painter Chihiro Yamada at its GALLERY EN wall from Saturday 25th October to Tuesday 18th November 2025. The exhibition will feature approximately 15 works, including recent pieces, centred on the theme of ‘nostalgia’ – a sensation that simultaneously evokes lost time and the awareness of one’s present self.
Yamada Chihiro’s paintings, with their vivid colours yet tranquil impression, are fundamentally characterised by a fluid brushwork achieved by completing the work before the oil paint has fully dried, starting from the very first stroke. While exploring themes of negative emotions such as “anxiety or discomfort”, she sublimates these feelings into her work during the creative process, sometimes painting the same motif repeatedly.
Titled “COME TO LIFE”, signifying “revival” and “becoming reality”, this exhibition centres on the theme of “nostalgia” – that sensation which simultaneously makes one aware of lost time and one’s present self. There are moments when one feels nostalgia in places visited for the first time or things seen for the first time. By depicting scenes that evoke nostalgia, Yamada has imbued his paintings with the meaning of reviving lost time.
