Hoshinoya Tokyo: “Later Moon Stay”, where you can enjoy sake and moon-viewing dumplings on a chartered boat while elegantly admiring the moon on the thirteenth night of the month.

2024.08.14

From 15 to 17 October 2024, Hoshinoya Tokyo will follow in the footsteps of Edo culture by offering the “Later Moon Stay” activity, where guests can admire the moon from a boat on the 13th night of the month. Guests will enjoy the moon view in elegance while enjoying sake and moon dumplings in a special seat on a chartered boat where they can stretch their legs and relax.

Love the moon reflected on the water in a chartered boat.

Following in the footsteps of the people of Edo, who used to take moonlight tours on boats on the surface of the Okawa (Sumida River), Hoshinoya Tokyo offers moonlight tours on a chartered boat.
The view from the boat offers a contrast between the modern buildings and the good old Japanese gardens. Being close to the sea, you can see the moon in the open night sky and its reflection in the water – a luxurious experience on a deep autumn night.

Sake and tsukimi dango (moon dumplings) are available to accompany the moon viewing on the boat. There are three types of Tsukimi Dango: baked rice cakes with red bean paste, chestnut paste and yellow soy sauce. The savoury, rice-flavoured baked dumplings are balanced by the sweetness of the red bean paste and the saltiness of the soy sauce, making them addictive.

After enjoying the moon outside, visitors can experience ‘Tsukimi ko’ at Hoshinoya Tokyo. Tsukimi ko is a typical autumn incense suite in which visitors listen to the scent of two types of scented wood and try to guess their scent. There are eight correct answers, each given a name and designed to enjoy different moonlight scenes.

Iide Town, Yamagata Prefecture] “Submerged Forest of Lake Shirakawa,” a Mysterious Spring-Only Scene

The mysterious scenery of Lake Shirakawa in the town of Iide in southern Yamagata Prefecture can be seen only during two months in spring. In spring, a large amount of melt water flows into Lake Shirakawa from the Iide mountain range, one of Japan’s 100 most famous mountains, where there is heavy snowfall. When the lake is full of water, it creates a fantastic sight of white willow trees as if they are growing out of the water.
