“Sakura no Machi” introduces cherry blossom festivals at Matsudo

1.Tokiwadaira Sakura Festival

Tokiwadaira Sakura Street, which extends for about 3 km, is a cherry blossom spot that represents Matsudo. Tokiwadaira Sakura-dori, a 50-year-old tree lined with trees lined with Yoshino cherry trees and cherry trees, was designated as one of Japan’s Top 100 Roads in 1987.

2.Yahashira Sakura Festival

The “Yahashira Sakura Festival” is also the nearest station to the “21st Century Forest and Plaza” and is a festival where you can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms and local performers at the south exit rotary of Yahashira Station, which leads to Tokiwadaira Sakura Street.
On the special stage set under the cherry blossom tree, various performances such as drum performances and dances and performances of brass bands from Tokiwadaira Third Elementary School will be performed.

3.Weeping cherry tree of Tojo

Todate Residence, a nationally important cultural property selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best Historical Parks and 100 Kanto Fujimi Views. At Todaigaoka Historical Park, where the Todate residence is located, you can enjoy seasonal plants such as “wisteria”, “chrysanthemums”, “momiji” and “ume”, and many people visit throughout the year.
Above all, during the cherry blossom season, a large number of people visit each day to see one “Red Benede Sakura”.

4.Weeping cherry tree at denpoji temple

Denpo-ji is a temple of the Nichiren sect near Higashi-Matsudo Station. The mountain was opened in 1604 and continues to this day.
There are large weeping cherry trees on the precincts, and it is a popular spot in the spring for locals.
This weeping cherry tree is a beautiful cherry tree that you can enjoy together with the statue of Nichiren Kaminto and feel somehow Kyoto-like. Please enjoy one cherry tree with a beautiful dignified figure.

5.Mutsumi cherry blossom festival

The two-lane road on one side, which is usually busy, turns into a “pedestrian paradise” for two days during the cherry blossom season every year. On the left and right of the road, there are 200 Yoshino cherry trees lined with pale pink flowers.

6.Weeping cherry tree of Tozenji Temple

Tozenji is a temple of the Jodo sect that has a history of 530 along Kogane and the former Mito Kaido. The grounds have been surrounded by forests since ancient times, and cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in autumn will heal your heart. Among the trees, there is a weeping cherry tree that is said to be over 300 years old (best seen in late March) and is designated as a protected tree in Matsudo City.

ZIPANGU Contemporary artists who have run through the Heisei era” Takashi Murakami x Sueo Mizuma dialogue: ‘Beyond the Theory of Artistic Entrepreneurship’ / Interview with Mr. Mizuma: ‘Rediscovering the Value of Japanese Culture by the Japanese People

The Hiroshima Museum of Art is hosting the exhibition “ZIPANGU: Contemporary Artists Who Defined the Heisei Era” (November 2, 2024 – December 22, 2024). This showcase brings together works by some of the most prominent figures in Japan’s contemporary art scene, including Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, Yoshitomo Nara, Chiharu Shiota, Izumi Kato, Akira Yamaguchi, and Miwa Komatsu. The exhibition has already garnered significant attention, exceeding 10,000 visitors.

HYAKKEI covered the dialogue between contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Sueo Mizuma, the curator of this exhibition, held at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Hiroshima. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Mizuma.

The discussions centered on the aspirations behind the ZIPANGU exhibition and offered forward-looking insights, not only into Japan’s art world but also into the rediscovery of value within Japanese culture by its people.

Two types of autumn-only red seals, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, are now available at Daisho-in Temple, Miyajima, a World Heritage island.

Two types of paper seals made exclusively for autumn, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, have been available since Monday 9 September at Daisho-in Temple on the World Heritage island of Miyajima. Quantities are limited and will run out as soon as they are gone.
