Enjoy breakfast at the Iriomote Island Hotel, where you can enjoy the fantastic world of Sagaribana that blooms only for one night.

2021.04.14

At Hoshino Resort Iriomotejima Hotel, we will hold a program “Sagaribana Breakfast” where you can enjoy the phantom flowers that bloom only overnight. The period is from July 5th to July 15th, 2021.
Iriomote Island has a one-night-only ephemeral flower called Sagaribana that blooms at night and scatters in the morning, which can be seen only during this period, and in the early morning you can enjoy a fantastic view of the entire river filled with flowers.

What is the flower "Sagaribana" that can only be seen during this period?

Barringtonia racemosa is a plant that is distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia and inhabits only the Nansei Islands in Japan. It begins to bloom at night, blooms in the middle of the night, and drops flowers early in the morning. Also called a phantom flower or an overnight flower (Hitoyobana), when it blooms, it gives off a sweet and strong scent like vanilla.

On Iriomote Island, where many rivers flow, you can often see fallen barringtonia racemosa floating on the surface of the river. We propose a program that focuses on breakfast, place, and time so that you can enjoy this magnificent view of pale pink flowers floating on the surface of the water.

A colorful breakfast that resembles a scene of flowers floating on the surface of the water

Vivid Temari sushi and edible flowers are studded in a glass bowl that looks like the surface of the water to express the scene where Sagaribana fills the surface of the water.

Salads, fruits, and jasmine tea bowls are all made of glass, so it seems that there are many water crests on the table. When the light shines on the vessel, the shadows open like ripples and overlap with the scene in front of you. A beautifully colored breakfast that you can enjoy visually.

Special seat in a superb view

We will prepare a special seat exclusively for this program at the place where we entered the tributary from the big river through the jungle arch. In the seats quietly standing in the back of the river, you can enjoy the pleasant morning breeze and the beautiful sunlight through the trees quietly while watching the barringtonia racemosa. You can have breakfast while feeling the nature of Iriomote Island.

Kayaking experience to enjoy the elegant appearance of flowers from the surface of the water

Depart on a charter boat in the tranquility of the early morning. After going upstream, change to a kayak and head to the scenic point to enjoy Sagaribana more quietly.

When you are rowing a kayak, you will be surrounded by a sweet scent like vanilla, and when you listen carefully, you will even hear the sound of barringtonia racemosa falling. A beautiful barringtonia racemosa that floats all over when you look at the surface of the water.

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
