A coral-shaped tree appears on the beach “Beach Christmas on the South Island” at the Resonale Kohama Island

At the remote island beach resort “Hoshino Resort Risonare Kohamajima” located in the southernmost Yaeyama Islands in Japan, a coral-shaped Christmas tree with a total length of 6 meters will appear on the beach adjacent to the hotel. There are white sand sofas where you can spend a relaxing time. It is an event where you can enjoy Christmas on the beach, enjoying coffee roasted with coral and sweets presented by Kariyushi Santa. The period is from December 1st to 25th, 2021.

A huge coral-shaped Christmas tree that symbolizes Christmas on the southern island

A Christmas tree with a coral motif will appear on the beach with a sense of privacy this year. The size of the tree, which is colored pink like a coral, is about 6 meters in total length. Decorate the lights of the seashells and the floating balls of Ryukyu glass to create a beach Christmas. In addition, trees made of coral and white sand are lined up around it, and when it lights up at night, it creates a fantastic atmosphere.

A white sand sofa where you can relax with your loved ones

A sofa made of white sand will be installed near the Christmas tree. A sofa decorated with coral-patterned cushions. You can spend a relaxing time watching the Christmas tree and the stars in the sky with your loved ones. We also offer “35 COFFEE” so that you can enjoy your time on the beach. By heating the weathered coral to 200 degrees Celsius and slowly baking it with coral heat, you can enjoy the mellow taste of coffee.

Hospitality of sweets from "Kariyushi Santa"

“Kariyushi Santa” appears in the event area of the beach that spreads around the coral Christmas tree. It is Santa Claus on the southern island wearing Okinawa’s Kariyushi shirt. Kariyushi Santa will present a coffee-flavored bittersweet “35CHINSUKO” to liven up the beach Christmas.

The Hiroshima Museum of Art is hosting the exhibition “ZIPANGU: Contemporary Artists Who Defined the Heisei Era” (November 2, 2024 – December 22, 2024). This showcase brings together works by some of the most prominent figures in Japan’s contemporary art scene, including Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, Yoshitomo Nara, Chiharu Shiota, Izumi Kato, Akira Yamaguchi, and Miwa Komatsu. The exhibition has already garnered significant attention, exceeding 10,000 visitors.

HYAKKEI covered the dialogue between contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Sueo Mizuma, the curator of this exhibition, held at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Hiroshima. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Mizuma.

The discussions centered on the aspirations behind the ZIPANGU exhibition and offered forward-looking insights, not only into Japan’s art world but also into the rediscovery of value within Japanese culture by its people.

Two types of autumn-only red seals, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, are now available at Daisho-in Temple, Miyajima, a World Heritage island.

Two types of paper seals made exclusively for autumn, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, have been available since Monday 9 September at Daisho-in Temple on the World Heritage island of Miyajima. Quantities are limited and will run out as soon as they are gone.
