[Kyoto Chanoyu Meihonotei] A cafe where you can experience matcha green tea in the tea room of the historical building Meihonotei opens in Kiyomizu, Kyoto.

2024.04.10

Kyoto Chanoyu Meihonotei” has been operating only a cafe on the first floor since December 2023, but started a Matcha (powdered green tea) experience in the second floor tea room at the grand opening in April 2024.

What is "Kyoto Chanoyu Meihonotei"?

Unlike most matcha cafes, Kyoto Chanoyu Meihonotei, a matcha café located on Sanneizaka in the sightseeing area of Kiyomizu, will not only offer so-called Japanese-style matcha drinks and sweets, but will also go one step further and make it a place where people can feel beauty in simple and imperfect things like “wabi sabi,” or the invisible cultural things.

Sanneizaka is a historic slope that has continued to mark the history of people since the Heian period (794-1185).

It is also said that during the Edo period, it was popular with Sakamoto Ryoma and other warriors at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

The Matcha Experience can be booked in advance by telephone or on the day. Please enquire at the shop or call for the date of the event.
