TeamLab’s art and sauna exhibition “TikTok TeamLab Reconnect”, works are announced one after another.

2021.03.14

Art Group TeamLab will hold a completely new exhibition “TeamLab & TikTok, TeamLab Reconnect: Art and Sauna Roppongi” (hereinafter “TikTok TeamLab Reconnect”) in Roppongi, Tokyo, March 22, 2021. It is scheduled to open from Sunday to August 31st.

This exhibition is based on the new idea that visitors themselves will be in the highest quality and experience art by “too” through the sauna instead of seeing art in a high-class place. Through the continuous experience of sauna, cold water, and art bath (rest in art space), visitors aim to become one with art and reconnect with the world (reconnect), a new form unlike any other in the world. It’s an exhibition.

The venue is currently under construction, and when it opens, it will have “levitation” and “proliferating infinite life” in the art bath area, “passing through the circle” in the cold water area, “getting lost in the circle” under construction, and a sauna. A group of works including many new works such as “Responsive Lamp Array and Spiral” will be announced in the area.

In addition, on the official website of the renewed exhibition, details of the sauna facility, how to experience repeating 3 sets of sauna, cold water, and art bath, and the background of this exhibition from a medical, historical, and cultural point of view are disclosed. TikTok TeamLab Reconnect will be held from March 22nd to August 31st, 2021.

Levitation
teamLab, 2021, Digital Installation, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

The sphere transcends the concept of mass, resting in the middle of the air, neither on the ground nor on the ceiling, and repeatedly going up and down in the air. The sphere falls to the ground and rolls when there is an impact such as when people hit it. However, if there is nothing in the way, it slowly rises into the air again as if it were repairing its own condition.

Proliferating Immense Life – A Whole Year per Year
teamLab, 2020, Interactive Digital Installation, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

In the same flow of time as in the real world, the blooming flowers change throughout the year. Flowers grow while repeating birth and death. If it grows too much, it will scatter all at once and die.
Also, when people try to sit in a chair for viewing, the flowers scatter and die.

Walk through the Light Circle

A circle is born in the space. The whole body goes through the circle.
One of Zen’s calligraphy, “Enso” (a circle drawn with a single stroke) is drawn in space with a single stroke (empty calligraphy).

In Zen, Enso has been represented by drawing a circle in the air with a cane since ancient times. It is a symbolic representation of enlightenment, truth, the entire universe, and equality. It is also a circle that reflects the viewer’s heart, and the interpretation is left to the viewer.

When a person passes under the lowest lamp at the bottom of an array of lamps (a dense collection of lamps), the lamp shines brightly and timbres. Alternatively, when a person enters or exits each sauna room, the lamp near the entrance / exit of the sauna room shines strongly in the color of the light in the sauna room and makes a sound.

Exhibition concept

Reconnecting with the world and time
TeamLab Reconnect is a new exhibition of art and saunas by TeamLab that allows you to experience art at its finest level, rather than seeing it in an upscale location.
The ultra-hot and cold alternating baths in the sauna open the brain and become one with the art with a physical sensation that spreads forever. Recognizing that the mind, body and environment are the wholeness of our being, we are reconnected to the world and time.

New experience with art and sauna
“Totono” is a very special brain science condition brought about by ultra-hot and cold alternating baths (repeating saunas, cold water, and breaks). “Totou” sharpens the senses, refreshes the head, makes beautiful things feel even more beautiful, and gives you an experience that you wouldn’t normally notice.
Enter the sauna, experience art, and go deeper.

Supernature Phenomenon
TeamLab Reconnect will unveil several works, including a new collection of works on the theme of TeamLab’s new art project, “Supernature Phenomenon.” “Supernatural Phenomenon” is a project with the theme of “supernatural phenomenon”, which means a phenomenon that transcends the laws of the natural world, and the resulting change in cognition itself. TeamLab believes that in the process of just looking at supernatural phenomena such as against universal gravitation, people’s cognition itself changes, and that change in cognition leads people to a “state different from everyday life.”

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
