The Yonezawa City Uesugi Museum, which houses the National Treasure ‘Uesugi-bon Rakuchū Rakugai-zu Byōbu’ (Folding Screens Depicting the Capital and its Outskirts) and numerous other cultural assets associated with the Uesugi clan, and which showcases the history and culture of the Uesugi clan and Yonezawa, is hosting a special exhibition entitled ‘Uesugi Kenshin and the Battle of Kawanakajima’ from Saturday 18 April.
Special Exhibition to Mark the 25th Anniversary of the Museum’s Opening: ‘Uesugi Kenshin and the Battle of Kawanakajima’
When one speaks of Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen, the fierce battles fought at Kawanakajima over control of Northern Shinano are particularly well known. The so-called ‘Battle of Kawanakajima’ is such a renowned historical event—one that has been passed down to posterity through military chronicles and other writings—that it continues to captivate the interest of many people today.
This exhibition presents the nature of the battles between Kenshin and Shingen, which saw the tide of the conflict ebb and flow, whilst also examining the various factions surrounding Kenshin.
