Kenichi Asano combines wood carving with pop culture elements and sublimates it into contemporary art, with the themes of “possession” and “unification” based on traditional techniques that have restored national treasure-class Buddhist statues. Kenichi Asano’s solo exhibition “phantazo”, which makes full use of cutting-edge digital sculpting, will be held in Tokyo from November 18, 2021 to December 10, 2021.
In this solo exhibition, we are creating a buggy form of a symbolic idol of a religion, which is the opposite of science and technology, by 3D modeling.
This is a shape that can only exist on the screen of a PC, like Escher’s picture, with the halo sunk into Nyorai’s head and the surface (polygon) of the shape being broken and having no volume.
By witnessing a shape that can only exist on a PC, the line between dreams and reality has been blurred. Ask the message, “Are you living in this reality now?” The title of the solo exhibition, “phantazo,” means “visualize” in classical Greek.
This exhibition is a visualization of glitch (computer bug).
