OMO5 Kanazawa Katamachi by Hoshino Resort will hold the Kanazawa Kogei Night Salon from 22 April 2025 throughout the year, where guests can enjoy Kaga-bocha tea in a space decorated with traditional crafts from Ishikawa and Kanazawa.
Taste tea brewed in front of you by hotel staff with Kanazawa tea sweets.
Hotel staff, trained by a long-established tea shop in the neighbourhood, explain the history of Kaga stick tea and the special features of each tea shop, while offering two types of freshly brewed tea and Kanazawa tea sweets. By comparing the teas, you can enjoy the differences in colour, aroma and taste depending on the brewing time and part of the tea leaves used. The selection changes daily, and the design and taste of the sweets also change with the seasons.
Cooperating shops
Nodaya Tea Shop
A 5-minute walk from OMO5 Kanazawa Katamachi. Located on Tatemachi shopping street, this traditional shop has been in business for five generations since the end of the Edo period. It continues to produce the shop’s unique taste, which combines two types of roasting: direct-fired and sand-roasted.
Maruhachi Tea Plant
Established in 1863. The company produces and sells quality Japanese tea in Kaga, Ishikawa. High quality raw materials are sourced from all over the country and we are constantly researching roasting techniques to bring out the aromatic fragrance and individual character of each tea.
Production using traditional crafts from Ishikawa and Kanazawa.
Traditional crafts such as Kanazawa foil and Kaga mizuhiki work have been used to create the interior decoration, demonstrating the high level of skill of each craftsman. Based on the uniquely Japanese sense of beauty ‘wabi sabi’, each craft is expressed in a design that gives a sense of the materiality and artistry of each craft.
For teaware, traditional crafts such as Kutani porcelain, Wajima lacquerware and paulownia wood crafts are gathered here, perfect for enjoying tea and Kanazawa tea sweets. Visitors can experience the charm of each craft and the delicate skills of the craftsmen by seeing and using them up close.
