~ Sakura Night Prayer ~ Daigoji Temple Spring Night Special Visit

2022.03.14

From March 19th (Sat) to April 4th (Mon), 2022, a special night visit to Sanbo-in Temple or Reihokan will be held at Daigoji Temple in Sohonzan (priority is given to advance reservations).

World Cultural Heritage Daigoji Temple

Daigoji Temple, which has a history of more than 1,000 years, is a treasure trove of wood culture and paper culture.
Since the opening of the mountain, it has nurtured its history and handed down its culture in the prayers of many people.
There are about 150,000 precious temple treasures such as Buddhist statues, documents, and paintings.

Currently, most of the temple treasures other than the Buddhas and temples enshrined in the buildings and temples are housed in the “Reihokan”, and some of them are being released one by one.
Sanbo-in was founded in 1115 by the 14th lord of Daigoji Temple, Shokaku Monk.
Most of the buildings are designated as important cultural properties, and the Omoteshoin, which overlooks the entire garden, is a representative building of the Momoyama period that conveys the style of Shinden-zukuri, and is designated as a national treasure.

The Sanboin Garden, which has become a national special historic site and a special scenic spot, was designed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi himself during the “Cherry Blossom Viewing at Daigo” in 1598, and still retains the gorgeous atmosphere of the Momoyama period.
