This exhibition will show 146 works from five popular Japanese ukiyo-e painters: “Katsushika Hokusai, Higashisusai Sharaku, Kitagawa Utamaro, Utagawa Hiroshige and Utagawa Kuniyoshi”. The exhibition area is distinguished by the artist’s creative expression and the age of the work, and conveys the cultural characteristics of the Edo period, such as Japanese life, clothing, politics, etc., depicted in Ukiyo-e. Ukiyo-e exhibitions have been held in Taiwan in the past, but this is one of the largest ukiyo-e exhibitions in Taiwan history.
Participation in this exhibition is the third expansion of plantica’s activities in Taiwan. ■Exhibit work concept
In the “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” series, which is the representative work of Katsushika Hokusai, the two most recognizable paintings, “Kanagawa Offshore” and “Kaifu Hanaharu”, are reconstructed with pressed flowers using the two paintings as motifs. The work is transcribed to four curtains, and the exhibition at the venue is devised so that you can enjoy it as a “floating picture” in the air.
The overall size of the work is <300cm x 600cm>, and the impressive exhibition scale is a sensational type work where you can feel the high waves of the sea, the morning glow of Mt. Fuji, and the changing clouds floating in the sky right before your eyes. Approximately 16,000 or more petals were used in the work, and petals were selected based on the color of the motif, which was similar to that of the motif.
