Situated at an altitude of 850 metres, Kuju Flower Park is holding the ‘Highland Cool Summer Festival’ from Saturday 2nd to Sunday 24th August. Visitors can enjoy cool summer breezes and magnificent views of the Kuju Mountains.
The main attraction at the 3,500-square-metre Viewing Hill is the ‘Sun Festa’, which features 50,000 sunflowers, as well as the ‘Concert Bells’ and ‘Sunny Kids’, all of which are in full bloom, creating a unique summer landscape.
Kuju Highlands, a summer resort in Oita Prefecture
It is said that the temperature drops by about 0.6°C for every 100 metres of elevation gained. However, Kuju Flower Park is located at an elevation of 850 metres, meaning the maximum temperature is 3–4°C lower than at sea level. There is always a breeze during the day, making it a very pleasant place to spend time. However, in the morning and evening, the temperature can drop to around 20°C. Please take care if you are participating in any night-time events held during the Summer Festival.
Spanning an impressive 220,000 square metres, the park is home to around 500 species of plant and 5 million flowers, which bloom from spring to autumn. As well as the flowers, visitors can enjoy the healing environment, which offers unobstructed views of the highlands, birdsong and a starry night sky.
Visitors can enjoy lunch and sweet treats at the on-site restaurant, and purchase local souvenirs at the shop. Pets are welcome free of charge and there is an on-site dog run, making the park an ideal destination for families, couples and pet owners looking to enjoy a full day of relaxation.
