Tsugaru Bidoro ‘Flowers of Tsugaru’ – New Items and New Colour ‘Katakuri’ – On Sale Friday 23 October

2026.11.02

‘Tsugaru Bidoro’, a traditional craft from Aomori Prefecture produced by Hokuyo Glass Co., Ltd., will release a new ‘Glass Noodle Bowl’ in four colours and a new ‘Katakuri’ colour in five items from its ‘Flowers of Tsugaru’ series on Friday 23 October 2026.

The ‘Flowers of Tsugaru’ series uses coloured glass to depict scenes of flowers blooming in Tsugaru from spring through to early summer. Centred on plates and bowls, the range features tableware designed for everyday use at the dining table. Following the addition of a shallow small bowl and a three-legged small plate in May 2026, this second wave of new additions includes a ‘glass noodle bowl’ and a new colour, ‘Katakuri’.

The new ‘Glass Noodle Bowl’ is the perfect choice for chilled noodle dishes such as somen and soba. The translucent glass and floral-inspired colour palette complement the food served in it, creating a visually refreshing dining experience.

The range also includes shallow bowls, which are handy for serving condiments and small portions of ingredients, as well as three-legged small plates that are ideal for holding soy sauce or dipping sauces. You can choose from a variety of tableware to suit different dishes and dining occasions. By combining pieces from the series, you can enjoy a cohesive table setting.

The new colour, ‘Katakuri’, is inspired by the wildflower ‘Katakuri’, which symbolises the arrival of spring. It takes seven to eight years or more from seed to bloom, and the flowers are in bloom for just one to two weeks. This fragile and delicate beauty is captured in translucent purple glass.

‘Tsugaru no Hana’ reflects seasonal scenery in its tableware, bringing joy to everyday meals. With the addition of new items and colours, the pleasure of adding a splash of colour to your summer dining table is expanded even further.

Shallow small bowl (Katakuri) 1,430 yen (incl. tax)
Free-form glass (Katakuri) 1,650 yen (incl. tax)
Three-legged small plate (Katakuri) 1,430 yen (incl. tax)

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
