Original products developed by Chef Pâtissier Keisuke Oyama of Nihonbashi Kabutocho’s ‘Pâtisserie ease’ for the Chichu Art Museum are now available for purchase within the museum. The timeless packaging design evokes the architecture of Tadao Ando’s building, while the ‘Setouchi Lemon Cake’ and ‘Setouchi Lemon Financier’ respectively embody the tranquillity Oyama experienced on Naoshima and the lingering resonance of the viewing experience.
Chichu Art Museum
Established in 2004, this museum explores the theme of “a place to contemplate the relationship between nature and humanity”. To avoid detracting from the beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea, the majority of the building is buried underground. Inside, works by Claude Monet, James Turrell, and Walter De Maria are permanently exhibited.
Despite its subterranean location, natural light floods the space, causing the appearance of the artworks and the space itself to change constantly throughout the day and across the seasons. This draws many visitors from both Japan and abroad.
Setouchi Lemon Cake: ¥3,700 (tax included)
A moist cake baked with fragrant almond and butter dough, incorporating hojicha tea and Setouchi lemon confit. The top features lemon icing, applied like a painting, inspired by the ‘Water Lilies’.
Setouchi Lemon Financiers (6 pieces) ¥3,300 (tax included)
We’ve captured the aroma of lemons and green tea from the Setouchi region within the batter, baking them to a moist and fluffy texture. This delicate baked treat encapsulates the gentle warmth felt on Naoshima and the lingering memory of French gardens.
