From Tuesday 15 September 2026, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo will launch a limited-edition autumn garden display in its forest-like gardens, featuring a collaboration between the autumn tradition ‘TOKYO MOON’ and the enhanced garden spectacle ‘Tokyo Sea of Clouds – Yakumo –’.
A magical autumn night admiring the moon floating amongst the clouds
‘TOKYO MOON’ is an autumn-only garden spectacle in which mist nozzles—designed to create the ‘Tokyo Sea of Clouds’—are directed skywards to form a misty ‘Sea of Clouds Screen’ over the Yūsui Pond within the garden. The ‘Tokyo Moon’, photographed from the hotel rooftop, is then projected onto this screen.
The moon projected onto the sea-of-clouds screen appearing on the surface of the Yūsui Pond changes its appearance depending on the wind and weather conditions; the fact that no two views are ever the same is one of its charms. Last year, to mark the 100th anniversary of the relocation of the Three-storey Pagoda, visitors were treated to a display depicting the phases of the moon.
This year, the dynamic and enchanting ‘Tokyo Sea of Clouds – Yakumo –’ will be presented alongside ‘TOKYO MOON’. You can witness a fantastical and romantic scene in which the moon floats amidst layers upon layers of overlapping clouds, with the clouds at times seeming to envelop the moon.
Furthermore, by increasing the number of nozzles on the water screen, the resolution of the moon’s image has been improved compared to previous years. Please enjoy this year’s unique ‘TOKYO MOON’, featuring a moon that appears more vividly and clouds that change their appearance moment by moment.
