◎ Shimada fireworks and swords

During the Edo period, Suruga Kuni Shimada-juku was on the left bank of the Oi River. It is said that the traveler, who was “retained by the river” due to the increase in water in the river, enjoyed fireworks with Japanese firewood (wabizai) such as salt stone, sulfur, red pine charcoal, and iron sand packed in a thin reed tube.

At the same time, many swordsmiths were active in Shimada. Among them, the master carpenter, “Gisuke” was the most famous and was a swordsmith who was keen to study the trends of the times. In addition, the theory that Ieyasu Tokugawa was the first person to see fireworks in Japan was left behind in the ancient document “Supu Government Records.” In this way, Shimada has a deep connection with swords and fireworks, so the traditional Suruga-kuni traditional fireworks “Gisuke” was born in honor of Yoshisuke Niko.

◎About Inoue Toy Fireworks Co., Ltd.
Inoue Shoten, the predecessor of the company, was founded in 1952, and then established a stock company in 1952, which led to a major shift to the business centered on fireworks. Since then, we have been expanding our business by exporting overseas and opening new factories, but there were also critical situations such as cheap fireworks coming in from China due to the recession. However, during that time, we have consistently continued our business by focusing on original product development and domestic manufacturing. Currently, we are engaged in manufacturing other than smoke and fire. To promote Japan’s fireworks culture, the Instagram “Asobi” operated and managed by employees introduces information about fireworks from all over the country and the charm of handheld fireworks. We will continue to work on new projects that will make more people aware of the appeal of domestic fireworks, with the spirit of the old and new knowledge.
