Okinawa’s popular photographer Saio supports non-profit community

2020.07.12

“Earth Photo Project”, an online photo community newly established by the non-profit organization Hiroshima Women’s Camera Club (Mariko Akimoto/Hiroshima Prefecture), is a collaboration project with the popular photographer Saio living in Okinawa and “Nature”. It is called and the topic is called.

Representative Akimoto pays attention to the possibilities of photography and exchanges in internet communication. With members, explore new ways to enjoy photos online. It also means that fans across the country will enjoy communicating with popular photographer Saio, and “I want you to feel the depth and splendor of photography in your everyday life.” We are planning a project to bring out the original charm and a lively expression of human beings who are present in nature, such as weddings and portrait photography in the background of Okinawa’s nature. Member registration and participation free.

The Hiroshima Women’s Camera Club, a non-profit organization based in Hiroshima City (location: Saiki-ku, Hiroshima City, representative: Mariko Akimoto), is an online community site “Earth Photo Project” newly opened in May 2020. We have started to open to the public.

This site was created by Mr. Akimoto himself during this year’s Golden Week, with the idea that “If there is a photo community that can be shared by everyone, even if self-restraint continues.”
I had been interacting with blogs and photo posts for about a month only by acquaintances, but I started thinking that “I would like to make photography activities that can be done online with the help and ideas of more people.” We have reached out to fans.

Mr. Saio, a popular photographer living in Okinawa, also participated in the project as a volunteer and provided advice on “natural”-themed photo works and “how to shoot”.
Hopefully more fun for photography on the 7th of July. Sayo will release a report of “How to shoot waves for beginners” that Mr. Saio actually shot on the coast of Okinawa and finished it.

[Background and future of service launch]
The number of people who hold online drinking parties etc. to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection has increased.
I think that it would be more useful if we could exchange information on the local area while talking about “pictures” with people all over the country.

For example, “I want to go to Okinawa but I can’t go. ] While there are many people
It would be a distraction if I could convey Okinawa in real time, and I would like to be able to exchange information such as “Let’s go here next time.” with photography enthusiasts nationwide.
We would like to create a community where members can create ideas while exchanging opinions that “I can do this.”

The exhibition has already garnered significant attention, exceeding 10,000 visitors.

HYAKKEI covered the dialogue between contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Sueo Mizuma, the curator of this exhibition, held at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Hiroshima. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Mizuma.

The discussions centered on the aspirations behind the ZIPANGU exhibition and offered forward-looking insights, not only into Japan’s art world but also into the rediscovery of value within Japanese culture by its people.
