【Rikugien】Hand-Hand-Training Course for Making Original Fans Held on July 22

In preparation for summer, Rikugien will hold a hands-on course for making your own original uchiwa (Japanese fan) at Rikugien. The course will be held at Rikugien in the summer.

Edo Uchiwa" was a chic summer accessory and a favorite decoration for women in Edo period (1603-1868).

Edo Uchiwa, which has been handed down to the present day, is made with great care and involves as many as 21 processes, from bamboo selection to peeling and polishing, before completion. Rikugien invites craftsmen who have inherited the Edo fan-making techniques to teach visitors how to make their own original uchiwa.

Location: Shinsen-tei
Contents: Learn about the history of uchiwa and make an “Edo uchiwa”.
Lecturer: Mr. Mizue Ota (traditional craftsman)
