Kushiro Prince Hotel offers guided tours from Sunday 1 December 2024 to Friday 28 February 2025, which can only be experienced in winter, where you can enjoy the sight of red-crowned cranes in front of you with the explanation of a professional guide.
From mid-November to mid-March every year, red-crowned cranes fly to Tsurui Village in the Kushiro General Promotion Bureau in search of food. During the snow season, the largest number of Red-crowned Cranes gather in the village, and at times when there are many, around 200 cranes can be seen in their elegant and mysterious appearance. On this tour, an expert guide will take you to Tsurumidai, one of several viewing points. Please enjoy not only the red-crowned cranes, but also the vast nature, spectacular scenery and winter attractions of eastern Hokkaido.
What is a red-crowned crane?
The red-crowned crane, a special protected species, is a phantom auspicious bird once thought to be extinct. Its beautiful contrasts of white, black and red and its graceful appearance have earned it the nickname ‘god of the moor’.
One of Japan’s largest wild birds, measuring 1.4m in length and 2.4m when its wings are spread.
The top of the head is red and the whole body is covered with white plumage. It is also covered with black plumage from the tips of the eyes to the neck and behind the wings.
The red-crowned crane soaring over the white snowfields is considered a winter wonder, and the white of the red-crowned crane is considered whiter and more beautiful than snow.
Fantastic sights and spectacular winter scenery! Private guided tours to meet the cranes.
