The charm of "mountain resort" Hakuba that can be enjoyed even in summer

In the Hakuba area of Nagano Prefecture, various activities and tourist attractions are being created every year in order to transform into a “mountain resort” where you can enjoy nature not only in winter but in all seasons. The Hakuba Mountain Harbor, which opened in 2018 with a panoramic view of the Northern Alps, Hakuba Tsugaike WOW!, a French adventure facility popular in 156 locations in 15 countries around the world, and a mountain bike course that runs through nature, Hakuba Many activities such as “Iwatake MTB PARK” are becoming popular.

And we are pleased to announce new activities and spots where you can enjoy Hakuba in the summer. Please enjoy an “extraordinary” experience that you cannot enjoy in the city, in a magnificent nature.

New activity spot of Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort

■ “Yahoo! Swing” jumping into the great scenery of the Northern Alps

A large swing with a magnificent view where you can enjoy the feeling of jumping into the magnificent Alps will be born in a place where you can see Hakuba Sanzan in the Northern Alps in front of the mountaintop area. The experience of entering the world of anime is recommended this summer. A web-based automatic shooting service will also be available, which can be used as a refreshing photo spot with the Northern Alps as the background.

■~Scenic view camping ground in nature~ “Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Field”

A campsite with a luxurious view of the Northern Alps has been created on the hillside of Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort. A luxury space with only 10 sites has appeared in an area of ​​about 1200 m above sea level exclusively for customers who use a gondola lift to access a buggy or E-MTB (electrically assisted MTB) from the mountaintop. In addition to the Northern Alps, you can enjoy the special scenic camp unique to our campsite, such as Morgenroth that dyes the mountains red, bonfires overlooking the starry sky.

It has an area of ​​over 70 m2 and is fully equipped with a power source or solar power. Next to the campsite, there is a rest house that combines a beautiful lounge space and a handy plan that includes site fees and rental items, so you can feel comfortable even in a wild atmosphere and feel secure even in bad weather. You can enjoy camping.

■ Great location where you can see the Karamatsuzawa Glacier “Glacier Deck”

In the beech forest right next to the superb cafe & bakery “Hakuba Mountain Harbor”, a new deck is set up in front of the Northern Alps Karamatsuzawa Glacier, which was certified as the 7th glacier in Japan in October 2019. It is also a matchmaking spot with anecdotes such as taking a picture of a glacier that does not melt even in summer and ringing the bell installed in the mountaintop area together will connect the two.

■ “Iwatake Trail Buggy” where you can drive yourself and go around the scenic spot

In winter, start a buggy cruise where you can drive a small buggy on your own on a special course with a view of the Northern Alps, which is set up on a gentle slope that serves as a ski resort. First of all, after receiving a careful lecture on how to drive, following the guide’s guide, you can enjoy the scenic spots unique to Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort, so even beginners can enjoy it with confidence.

An all-weather amusement facility with attractions that can be enjoyed by infants and toddlers as well as adults. The trampoline park is a facility where you can play freely on a full-scale trampoline on the floor, but you can also play your own way such as playing on the wall or playing basketball on the trampoline.

Guide program of Tsugaike and Happo area held this summer only

■Happo Nature Trekking Program

In the summer of 2020, a new program will be launched by the US CNN that allows you to walk along with a guide on a trekking route to “Happoike”, a scenic spot that has been selected as one of “beautiful places in Japan”. Under the guidance of a guide who is familiar with the environment of the area, you can enjoy a comfortable mountain trekking while guiding you through the majestic mountain landscape and learning the natural environment and alpine plants unique to Happoone.

■ MIKKETA!

“MIKKETA!” is an educational program that allows children and adults to enjoy the five senses while having fun learning about the flora and fauna and nature in the national park. The program consists of four programs, such as “Kodomo Challenge” by Benesse Corporation, a plan to be developed in cooperation with Otari Village, and a tour to guide the attraction of nature gardens by a dedicated guide. With the program starting in the summer of 2019, many families enjoy the national park as a place of education and a place to enjoy.

■Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort: Magic Hour & Candle Night

We will extend the gondola lift and hold a “magic hour” scene where the color of the sky changes before and after sunset, and an event to decorate the candles shining in the dark for three days only during the summer vacation. There will also be music events at Hakuba Mountain Harbor and SkyArk Deck Cafe. The scenery that you can’t usually see and the experience that you can enjoy with your family and friends are perfect for your summer memories.

The Hiroshima Museum of Art is hosting the exhibition “ZIPANGU: Contemporary Artists Who Defined the Heisei Era” (November 2, 2024 – December 22, 2024). This showcase brings together works by some of the most prominent figures in Japan’s contemporary art scene, including Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, Yoshitomo Nara, Chiharu Shiota, Izumi Kato, Akira Yamaguchi, and Miwa Komatsu. The exhibition has already garnered significant attention, exceeding 10,000 visitors.

HYAKKEI covered the dialogue between contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Sueo Mizuma, the curator of this exhibition, held at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Hiroshima. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Mizuma.

The discussions centered on the aspirations behind the ZIPANGU exhibition and offered forward-looking insights, not only into Japan’s art world but also into the rediscovery of value within Japanese culture by its people.

Two types of autumn-only red seals, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, are now available at Daisho-in Temple, Miyajima, a World Heritage island.

Two types of paper seals made exclusively for autumn, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, have been available since Monday 9 September at Daisho-in Temple on the World Heritage island of Miyajima. Quantities are limited and will run out as soon as they are gone.
