Accommodation plan “Icefall Girl Stay” to fully enjoy the Oirase Gorge in winter

2020.12.02

At the only resort hotel “Hoshino Resorts Oirase Keiryu Hotel” built along the Oirase Keiryu, on December 19, 2020, the accommodation plan “Ice Waterfall” to fully enjoy the winter Oirase Keiryu “Hyobaku) Girl Stay” is now available. This is an icefall accommodation plan where you can fully enjoy the winter tradition of “icefall”, which can only be seen at this time of year, with static and dynamic, light and dark, and food.

During your stay of 1 night and 2 days, you can enjoy not only active tours but also hot springs, special dinners, limited sweets, and you can spend a relaxing time while healing your tiredness in the guest room with an open-air bath terrace overlooking the snowy scenery. I can do it. With this plan limited to one group per day, you can forget about the cold and enjoy the charm of winter to your heart’s content.

The Oirase Gorge belongs to the Towada Hachimantai National Park, and offers abundant nature and seasonal scenery.

When the most popular autumn of the year is over and the number of people is low, the area is surrounded by a world of platinum. In the national park area including Hakkoda Mountains located in the north of the hotel and Lake Towada located in the south, there are many popular tourist destinations that are constantly visited by tourists from spring to autumn, but in winter it becomes severely cold. Due to the large amount of snow, the number of tourists is one-third that of other seasons (about 900,000 → about 300,000 * 1).

Therefore, the hotel focused on the lesser-known attraction of this area, “Icefall,” and resumed winter operations in 2017, realizing it in cooperation with “Icefall no Yu,” and Towada City. We have devised various contents such as “Icefall Light Up Tour”.

And this winter, which is the fourth year since the winter business resumed, we are not just looking at the icefall. We have devised this icefall plan so that you can get to know it more deeply and enjoyably and enjoy the icefall throughout your stay.

We will continue to convey the charm of icefalls and winter throughout our stay.

A natural "icefall" that appears in the Oirase Gorge in winter

Icefall of "Choshi Otaki" (Photo: Mid-February)

An icefall is a frozen waterfall or spring. There are plenty of waterfalls and springs along the Oirase Gorge, and it freezes in winter.

In addition, the Oirase Gorge is a deep U-shaped valley, which makes it difficult for light to reach the ice, creating an optimal environment for icefalls. Since the landscape changes depending on the snow and ice conditions, you can see the once-in-a-lifetime ice art.

"Icefall dinner" that you can enjoy while watching the snowy scenery in your room

The centerpiece of the plan, “Icefall Supper,” starts with an hors d’oeuvre varieties (* 2) that incorporates plenty of seasonal ingredients, and is a plan-limited course meal that you can enjoy slowly in your room without worrying about time. There are menus that you can enjoy looking at, such as the dessert “Baked Alaska (* 3)”, which is based on the image of an icefall that appears in the world of silver.

* 2 Assorted bite-sized appetizers that first appear in a full-course meal of French cuisine.
* 3 A sweet made by placing cake dough around ice cream, covering it with meringue, and baking it.

Sweet and sour "icefall sweets" expressing the Oirase Gorge in winter

After dinner, we will offer a plan-limited “icefall sweets”. A dessert that expresses icefalls with bluish meringue and snow cotton hats scattered in snow-covered rocks and mountain streams with apple mousse and cinnamon-flavored crumbles.

The refreshing apple mousse and the sweetness of the cassis jelly inside go well together, and it goes well with the cider that has the image of an icefall.

Experience the "icefall spa" to heal your tired body

Approximately 60 minutes before going to bed is the time to warm up your cold body at the plan-limited “Icefall Spa”. In the spa treatment that begins with counseling by an esthetician, the back and shoulders that have shrunk due to the cold are loosened with a white heat-generating pack that resembles an icefall, and an oil treatment gently heals.

Relieve the fatigue of the first day and enjoy the activities of the next day with all your might.

"Icefall Girl Goods" where you can enjoy the icefall with peace of mind

Even beginners of icefalls can enjoy winter with peace of mind, so it is safe to come empty-handed. Even if you go out on a midwinter night, you will find goods for enjoying winter, such as winter clothes (upper and lower) that do not allow the wind to pass through and snow boots, gloves, hats, fleece, etc.

Enjoy the Oirase Gorge in winter with an icefall program

"Icefall Light Up Tour" (taken around mid-February)
"Snowshoe hike (Choshi Otaki icefall: taken around mid-February)

This plan includes not only the “Icefall Hot Spring” in the building, but also the popular programs “Icefall Light Up Tour” and “Snowshoe Hike”. Therefore, you can enjoy the “icefall” throughout your stay from various perspectives, whether inside or outside the building, day or night, food, activities, and hot springs.

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
