Limited to one group per day. “Sakura Terrace” is open for a limited time

2021.02.20

Hoshinoya Kyoto, an inn with river views in all rooms in Arashiyama, Tokyo, can occupy the weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom with only one group per day during the cherry blossom season from March 25 to April 10, 2021. “Sakura Terrace” will open. Sakura Terrace is a space where you can enjoy cherry blossoms that show various expressions depending on the time of day, such as cherry blossoms shining in the morning sun and cherry blossoms floating in the fantastic light of dusk. It is a terrace where you can quietly enjoy the spring atmosphere of Arashiyama while relaxing away from the hustle and bustle, such as enjoying a meal under the cherry blossoms or making matcha.

“Sakura Terrace”, which is set up only during the cherry blossom season, is a private terrace limited to one group per day where you can occupy the weeping cherry blossoms in full bloom. Arashiyama has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots * 1, and in the spring, about 1,500 cherry trees such as Yoshino cherry trees and wild cherry trees dye the mountain surface in cherry blossoms.

Arashiyama is crowded with many tourists every year, but Hoshinoya Kyoto is located in a valley about 1 km away from Togetsu Bridge, a famous place in Arashiyama, so you can relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is an environment where you can enjoy. We have developed Sakura Terrace from the desire to enjoy cherry blossom viewing in a private space where you can spend your time.

Features of Sakura Terrace

Wood deck terrace
Tatami-matted terrace

We have set up a wooden deck and a tatami-matted terrace under the weeping cherry blossoms so that you can relax under the cherry blossoms. There is a sofa on the wooden deck where you can sit comfortably. On the tatami-matted terrace, you can lie down and look up at the cherry blossoms. In addition to the weeping cherry blossoms, wild cherry blossoms, and Yoshino cherry blossoms that bloom in the garden with a terrace, you can enjoy the dynamic scenery such as the cherry blossoms of Mt. Ogura on the opposite bank.

How to spend time on Sakura Terrace

Relax while watching the cherry blossoms during the moving time

At Sakura Terrace, you can enjoy cherry blossoms that show various expressions not only during the day but also depending on the time of day. For example, at night, under the illuminated cherry blossoms at night, you can enjoy a colorful Matsukado bento that uses plenty of spring ingredients. In the morning, while watching the cherry blossoms shining in the morning sun, nourish yourself in the morning hot pot where you eat seasonal vegetables with the chef’s special soup stock.

In addition, you can relax as you wish, such as reading a book selected by the Kyoto bookstore “Kebunsha” or taking a nap under the cherry blossoms fluttering under the fantastic light of dusk.

Enjoy Japanese sweets and matcha that reflect the cherry blossoms of Arashiyama

At Sakura Terrace, you can also experience making matcha yourself. Along with matcha, you can enjoy the “Sakuragawa” steamed bun from the long-established Japanese confectionery store “Oimatsu Kitano”, which has been in business for over 100 years.

In the image of cherry blossoms blooming on a private Sakura terrace, salted cherry leaves and red bean paste are hidden in a white and light pink dough. Matcha is made by carefully selecting and grinding tea leaves for Hoshinoya Kyoto by “Risho Enchaho” in Uji, Kyoto. The Tsutsujawan * 2, which was prepared to be warmed up by drinking matcha in the early spring when it is still a little chilly, is a modern design by Masahiko Ichino, who built the Taiga kiln of Tamba ware.

In addition, we have a selection of tea utensils such as ivy tea utensils and zelkova round trays by wood craftsman Shingo Tsukuda. Enjoy the taste of spring with Japanese sweets and matcha that reflect the scenery spreading in front of you.
* 2 A cylindrical bowl with a deep bottom. Since heat does not escape, it is used in the cold season in the tea ceremony.
