[Hoshinoya Kyoto] “Cool boat in Oku Arashiyama” where you can enjoy the cool grace of a houseboat

At Hoshinoya Kyoto, an inn with river views in all rooms in Arashiyama, Kyoto, you can rent a houseboat “Hisui” and watch the green water surface shining in the morning sun and the cool blue maple.
A plan to taste special cool confectionery and cold matcha will be available from July 1st to August 31st, 2022.

Ride the houseboat "Hisui" on the Jade-colored Oigawa River and feel the coolness of your whole body

The Oigawa River, which flows in front of Hoshinoya Kyoto, is a place where the blue maple and jade-colored water surfaces of Ogurayama and Arashiyama on both banks are cool to the eyes.
From the houseboat near the surface of the water, you can feel the coolness of the whole body, such as the cool breeze that blows through the valley and the sound of blue maple fluttering in the wind.
By putting out Hisui during the quiet morning hours, you can monopolize the view of the cool valley.

Eat cool with Bonkei cold sweets and cold matcha

In Hisui, you can enjoy Bonkei cold sweets and cold matcha made by the staff.
Bonkei is a unique Japanese play where you can enjoy the beauty and loneliness of a tray(Bon) by expressing the scenery of all nature in three dimensions (* 1).

In this activity, we expressed the scenery of Oku Arashiyama with cool sweets such as sorbet and fu manju using summer fruits.
Cold matcha is a drink made by adding ice to a dark matcha and chilling it, which is unique to summer.
You can feel the coolness of nature by tasting Bonkei Ryoka and cold matcha along with the cool valley atmosphere.

Change into a yukata and wear cool clothes

Change into a yukata and enjoy boating.
The yukata is made of cotton, which is comfortable on the bare skin, and is a cool summer outfit that allows the wind to escape from the sleeves.
You can change from colorful yukata and obi to your favorite combination and enjoy boating.

You can rent out the elegant houseboat “Hisui” and enjoy boating while relaxing in a private space.
Hisui is a houseboat exclusively for Hoshinoya Kyoto, which is made into an elegant space surrounded by traditional Kyoto crafts using building materials and decorations that have been popular in Kyoto for a long time.

ZIPANGU Contemporary artists who have run through the Heisei era” Takashi Murakami x Sueo Mizuma dialogue: ‘Beyond the Theory of Artistic Entrepreneurship’ / Interview with Mr. Mizuma: ‘Rediscovering the Value of Japanese Culture by the Japanese People

The Hiroshima Museum of Art is hosting the exhibition “ZIPANGU: Contemporary Artists Who Defined the Heisei Era” (November 2, 2024 – December 22, 2024). This showcase brings together works by some of the most prominent figures in Japan’s contemporary art scene, including Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, Yoshitomo Nara, Chiharu Shiota, Izumi Kato, Akira Yamaguchi, and Miwa Komatsu. The exhibition has already garnered significant attention, exceeding 10,000 visitors.

HYAKKEI covered the dialogue between contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Sueo Mizuma, the curator of this exhibition, held at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Hiroshima. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Mizuma.

The discussions centered on the aspirations behind the ZIPANGU exhibition and offered forward-looking insights, not only into Japan’s art world but also into the rediscovery of value within Japanese culture by its people.

Two types of autumn-only red seals, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, are now available at Daisho-in Temple, Miyajima, a World Heritage island.

Two types of paper seals made exclusively for autumn, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, have been available since Monday 9 September at Daisho-in Temple on the World Heritage island of Miyajima. Quantities are limited and will run out as soon as they are gone.
