Okamedo, a long-established Japanese confectionary shop in Aichi Prefecture, has been making improvements to its ‘Ohigan speciality’ every year, and this year it will be freshly made again. The beans are cooked and the rice is steamed to make it fluffier and smoother than ever before.
Delivering delicacies and thoughts on the far shore
Ohagi, a ‘food of prayer’, is used to express gratitude and respect for ancestors.
The red colour of azuki beans has long been believed to ward off evil spirits, and the tradition of eating ohagi at the equinoxes is still observed today. At Okamedo, we are committed to delivering truly delicious ohagi because we recognise the importance of family gatherings on this special occasion. With this in mind, we have been making improvements for over 70 years.
