‘Benzaiten’, a brand specialising in traditional Japanese sweets centred around fruit daifuku, will launch four new autumn-limited products featuring chestnuts and sweet potatoes as the main ingredients on Monday 17 August 2026. Chestnuts and sweet potatoes are classic autumn ingredients that have long been loved. That is precisely why Benzaiten is proposing new ways to enjoy them that go beyond the ‘traditional’ methods.
Japanese chestnuts × cream cheese. ‘Cream Cheese – Japanese Chestnuts’—a traditional Japanese sweet that tastes just like cheesecake.
580 yen (including tax)
We have combined a paste made from 100 per cent Japanese chestnuts with coarsely chopped candied chestnuts in their skins, and blended this with Benzaiten’s signature white bean paste. Layered on top is cream cheese, offering a refreshing tang and creamy richness.
The cream cheese complements the mellow sweetness of the chestnut paste, creating a Western-style flavour that, whilst a traditional Japanese confection, is somewhat reminiscent of cheesecake.
The texture of the chestnuts within the smooth paste adds a delightful accent. This is a treat that allows you to enjoy the ‘blur between Japanese and Western flavours’—one that pairs beautifully not only with Japanese green tea but also with coffee or black tea.
Sweet potato × salted butter. A nostalgic yet innovative autumn daifuku: ‘Tora Mame Imo Daifuku’
520 yen (including tax)
We have pureed ‘Takasei’ sweet potatoes—known for their fluffy texture and simple sweetness—and combined them with Benzaiten’s white bean paste. The addition of salted butter enhances the sweetness of the sweet potatoes whilst adding a rich, indulgent aftertaste.
For a textural accent, we use ‘Tora-mame’ beans from ‘Kyō Kanokomame’, a long-established Kyoto shop with a history spanning over 100 years. This new autumn daifuku combines traditional Japanese ingredients—sweet potato, beans and white bean paste—with the Western essence of butter, offering a comforting sense of nostalgia whilst revealing a new dimension of flavour.
Mont Blanc × Gyūhi: ‘Wappa Mochi Mont Blanc’
880 yen (including tax)
We have reimagined the Mont Blanc—a quintessential autumn dessert—in true Benzaiten style. We’ve combined gyūhi, which remains soft even when chilled, with biscuit, and lavishly layered it with a Japanese chestnut paste enriched with fresh cream. White chocolate and our homemade rum-soaked raisins add a delightful finishing touch.
Enjoy the rich flavour of Japanese chestnuts, the depth of the fresh cream, the mellow aroma of the rum-soaked raisins, and the uniquely soft texture of gyuhi.
A simple, single chestnut treat for chestnut lovers: ‘Whole Chestnut Daifuku’
680 yen (including tax)
A whole chestnut with its skin intact is lavishly wrapped inside. The smooth chestnut filling combines domestic chestnut paste with Benzaiten’s signature white bean paste. At its centre lies a prominent whole chestnut with its skin, all wrapped in soft mochi dough.
In contrast to the other three varieties, which incorporate cream or butter, this is a treat designed to let you savour the pure flavour of the chestnut itself.
With every bite, the flavour and texture of the chestnut unfold—a daifuku crafted especially for chestnut lovers.
