Traditional technique “Raku ware”

Soft pottery that is kneaded by hand without using a potter’s wheel and baked at a low temperature is called
Raku-yaki (Raku ware).
Each bowl made with this traditional technique is a handmade work of art.
The decoration of the floats is vividly expressed, and you can feel the gorgeous atmosphere of the Gion Festival and the weight of tradition.

Hayashigane, an essential part of the Yamahoko of the Gion Festival

With the cooperation of Nanjo Kobo, which has been manufacturing Hayashigane for the Gion Festival and various regions, as well as musical instruments for the gods and shrines for more than 190 years, there is also a corner where you can actually play several types of Hayashigane.

The Gion Festival has long been loved by the people of Kyoto.
The motif is also incorporated into various traditional crafts such as Nishijin textile, Kyo Yuzen, Kyo ware, Kiyomizu ware, and Kyo fan.
Please fully enjoy the world of splendid Yamahoko parade (Yamahokojunko) through this exhibition, which conveys the rich history and tradition, as well as the beauty of traditional crafts.
