From 31 December 2024 to 28 February 2025, Japan’s first glamping resort, Hoshinoya Fuji, will host the ‘Fuji New Year’s First Kaiun Stay’. This is a programme to pray for good fortune in the New Year through the creation of a red seal book, a visit to the oldest shrine on Mt. Fuji and a fortune breakfast in a cabin (guest room) with spectacular views of Lake Kawaguchi. From this winter, ‘sunrise canoeing’ is available on Lake Kawaguchi with a spectacular view. This is a special time to spend at the beginning of the New Year, and a lucky stay that will leave you feeling refreshed.
Sunrise Canoeing’ at the start of the New Year, with a spectacular view on Lake Kawaguchi.
Early in the morning of the second day of this itinerary, we will enjoy the New Year’s sunrise with a ‘sunrise canoe’ on Lake Kawaguchi. Unlike during the day, early morning on Lake Kawaguchi is often quieter as there are no other boats on the lake and the wind is calm. In the dignified cold of winter, we go out on the quiet lake and enjoy a warm sweet drink on the canoe.
Visit the oldest shrine on Mt Fuji to pray for happiness in the New Year.
On the first day of check-in, you will enjoy making your own red seal book using local textiles in your cabin at Hoshinoya Fuji. Then, on the second day, enjoy sunrise canoeing on Lake Kawaguchi before visiting Fuji Omuro Sengen Shrine.
Visit Mt. Fuji’s oldest shrine to pray for happiness in the New Year, receive purification and prayers at the shrine, and receive a vermilion seal directly into your own red seal book. This is a special moment to pray at the beginning of a new year at the oldest shrine on Mt. Fuji and wish for happiness in the New Year.
Enjoy the ‘Kaikai Breakfast’ in a cabin with a spectacular view, where you can taste the bounty of the land to the fullest.
After visiting the shrine, you will taste the ‘Kaiun Breakfast’ in the cabin, which boasts an unbeatable location with Lake Kawaguchi right in front of you. The main breakfast dish is a warm Kaiun nabe, a hot pot of wild boar meat, a blessing of the mountains, served in a kombu broth. Wild boar is highly nutritious and is said to prevent all illnesses when eaten, symbolising good health.
Other lucky ingredients such as burdock root, which is believed to bring a long and happy life, and lotus root, which is believed to bring a good future, can also be enjoyed, and special products from Yamanashi Prefecture such as young peaches and cooked abalone are served as starters. For starters, a combination of Yamanashi specialities such as young peaches and cooked abalone is served.
