[BEB5 Karuizawa] No faffing about with preparations! Enjoy a laid-back summer retreat at our first-ever ‘Bring-Your-Own Beer Garden’

2026.05.15

At BEB5 Karuizawa, whose concept is ‘More than a pub, less than a holiday—a hotel where everyone can relax and unwind together’, we are delighted to announce the launch of our very first ‘Bring-Your-Own Beer Garden’ from 1 June to 31 August 2026. No fiddly preparations required! Come and enjoy a laid-back summer retreat in this popular holiday destination.
Escape the sweltering heat in cool Karuizawa and bring your own favourite drinks and food to enjoy freely in the hotel’s public space, ‘TAMARIBA’. With options for self-smoking and equipment hire available, we offer a laid-back stay free from the constraints of time and place.

Shopping in the local area, or picking up your favourites from the BEB Café menu

The area around BEB5 Karuizawa is dotted with shops perfect for stocking up, such as ‘Tsuruya Karuizawa’, a supermarket offering a wide range of craft beers and original products, and ‘Karuizawa Hoshino Area Harunire Terrace’, which boasts an extensive selection of deli items made with seasonal ingredients.

One of the real pleasures of this beer garden is the freedom to choose your own deli items and drinks along the way to the hotel and bring them in with you. Furthermore, the BEB Café inside the hotel offers a selection of dishes to accompany your drinks, such as garlic-infused seafood that whets the appetite with its herbal aroma, hearty sausages and smoked Shinshu salmon. Your evening of freedom begins the moment you start discussing what to pair together.

With home smoking, you can adapt your usual dishes to suit your own taste

It’s not just about enjoying the deli items and ingredients you’ve bought as they are; part of the fun lies in adding that extra touch with our self-smoking facility. Using the tabletop smoker adds a smoky aroma to everyday snacks such as cheese and nuts, elevating their flavour to a whole new level.
The warmth and rich aroma, reminiscent of freshly made food, enhance your drinking experience even further. At ‘TAMARIBA’, set in a courtyard where the evening breeze is refreshing, you can enjoy a dish tailored to your own taste at your own leisurely pace.

With a lantern or a rug in hand. A laid-back beer garden spanning the entire Karuizawa Hoshino Area

The beer garden will be held not only at ‘TAMARIBA’ inside the hotel, but also in outdoor spaces throughout the Karuizawa Hoshino Area. With a picnic basket in hand—complete with LED lanterns and rugs to adorn your table—you can choose your own spot, whether it be the courtyard surrounded by woods or a bench, wherever feels most comfortable at the time.
As you are not confined to a specific venue, you can spend a relaxed evening in your own chosen spot, enjoying the cool Karuizawa night breeze that is unique to this summer retreat. As the night deepens, head to ‘TAMARIBA’, the 24-hour public space. We also recommend savouring the long night, chatting quietly and intimately without worrying about the time.

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
