Hoshinoya Kyoto rent out a boat boat and occupy the colorful leaves of Arashiyama shining in the morning sun “Asa no Momiji boat”

2020.08.15

The “Hoshinoya Kyoto” inn with river views in all rooms in Arashiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, holds a group of “Morning Maple Boats” for one group per day from November 20 to December 5, 2020.

You can rent out the specially-built houseboat “Hisui”, which was just completed in September 2020, and go through the Oigawa River flowing in front of you, while watching the autumn leaves of Mt. This is an activity to watch. In the yakatabune, while listening to the chirping of birds, you can taste the Bonkei confectionery that depicts the scenery on the tray with seasonal Japanese sweets along with green tea. A quiet morning foliage hunting in the scenery like Nishiki’s silk fabric is an experience that can be done only by staying at Okuarashiyama.

In the silence, the autumn leaves shining in the morning sun are monopolized from the yakatabune

You can enjoy the autumn leaves of Mt. Kokura and Arashiyama, which shine brightly in the morning sun, on a chartered boat on the Oyan River that flows in front of the hotel. The slopes of Kokurayama and Arashiyama located on both banks are steep, so each tree that vividly colors red and yellow stands out, and the scenery is like a Nishiki silk fabric. You can see the autumn leaves shining on the quiet surface of the water because you ride on a yakatabune early in the morning when there are few boats coming and going. It is a quiet morning foliage picking that you can experience only by staying.

Okuarashiyama drawn with Japanese sweets to enjoy the scenery of the once-in-a-lifetime event

In the Yakatabune, you can enjoy Matcha and Bonkei confectionery, which depicts the scenery on the Obon with Japanese confectionery shaped like the season. In addition to the falling geese in the shape of the hotel’s crest, colorful Japanese sweets such as maple, ginkgo, pine needles, and boar are used to draw the view of the once-in-a-lifetime event from the boat boat on the tray. Japanese sweets were made by Ryocho Kameya, a Japanese sweets store founded in 1803, for this activity.

Matcha is made by carefully selecting and grinding tea leaves for the hotel at the Rishoen tea shop in Uji, Kyoto. It is named “Rokuheki” because of the desire to make a cup of tea a “record” of the trip and the clear green color of the Oyan River. You can deepen the memories of your trip by making your own matcha using a field basket.

A graceful time to spend at Jade, a boat that has just been completed this year

For this activity, we will rent out the “Jade,” a boat boat exclusively for the hotel. Jade is a magnificent boat where the craftsmanship of Kyoto such as miso and metal fittings is everywhere. You can switch the roof color from white to transparent with a switch, so you can enjoy looking up at the autumn leaves that dye the valley and the clear blue sky. You can spend an elegant time like the Heian aristocratic boating by watching the autumn leaves shining from the elegant jade.

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
