Hoshino Resorts Proposes How to Spend Summer in Okinawa “Stay in Soft Wind”

2021.05.05

In recent years, the heat felt in summer in cities has become more severe. On the other hand, the people of the island live by taking in the wind from the sea well. In addition, we rely on the wind to know the changes in the seasons and cherish them as wisdom in our daily lives. Why don’t you feel the southerly wind at “Hoshinoya Taketomijima”, a stay-type resort in Taketomi Island, Okinawa?

The wind of the island has been closely related to daily life as a letter that announces the arrival of each season so that it is named every 24 seasons. For example, “Mahae” is known as the soft monsoon that blows from the south, signaling the arrival of summer. Please be healed by the pleasant breeze of Taketomi Island, which you cannot feel in the heat of the city.

Spend a comfortable time in the "Kaze no Ie" where the south wind blows through

Guest room "Kaze no Ie" where the wind passes through
Soft wind relaxation set

Taketomi Island is an island where the original scenery of Okinawa remains strong, with a village selected as the “Important Traditional Buildings Preservation District” of the country. The houses on the island are built to welcome the wind from the southwest in the hot summer and to blow a pleasant breeze indoors. The guest rooms on Hoshinoya Taketomi Island, which follow the traditional architecture, are all designed with the veranda facing south and the large windows on the wall to let in the wind. The wind that blows from the south is called “Southern wind” and is considered to be auspicious.

The guest rooms are equipped with a fan made from a plant called Kuba that grows naturally on the island, incense using the refreshing scent of shell ginger, and a coral wind chime with a clear and high tone. It is a space where you can do it. In addition, you can relax and comfortably spend time on the chair mock under the eaves and on the veranda with the goza of shell ginger. A time when you can feel the breeze at “Kaze no Ie” is a time unique to Taketomi Island surrounded by nature.

Enjoy your meal in a place where you can feel the wind

Aperitif at Azumaya
Breakfast on the observatory

Within the large grounds of Hoshinoya Taketomi Island, there are various places where you can feel the breeze, and you can eat while being healed by the breeze.
The dinner prepared in the windy guest room is Shimanabe, which is chilled with ice. Enjoy a refreshing pot filled with pork, island tofu, seasonal vegetables, etc. with “Nuchigusa Ice”.

Life grass is a general term for herbs and vegetables that have been useful for health on the island since ancient times, and its refreshing scent arouses the appetite of summer. It is a dinner that you can enjoy while receiving the night breeze in the spacious rooms.

At Azumaya, which is located in a field where the island’s plants grow, you can spend time before meals while feeling the breeze at dusk. Aperitif is a drink that uses red perilla and has a moderate acidity. After being healed by the gentle breeze stroking your skin while gazing at the twilight sky, enjoy a dinner course in the main dining room.
Breakfast is a light meal that uses Okinawan red potatoes and prawns, which you can eat while feeling the breeze passing through the sea at the viewing platform. While overlooking the entire facility, take in the light of the morning sun and the breeze from the sea, and spend a refreshing start of the day.

Experience the maneuvering of "Sabani" that runs under the wind from the sails

Feel the wind blowing in the sea on the traditional Ryukyu wooden sailing ship “Sabani”. You can experience the power of the wind blowing over the wide sea surrounding Taketomi Island in the experience of maneuvering Sabani, which advances only with the power of rowing using a paddle and the wind. It is an activity where you can feel the summer breeze in a private space. Occasionally taking a break from rowing and spending time relaxing on the sea while being swayed by Sabani is also a time to feel open.
