The art “Fringed orchid” created by the natural world blooms at Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden

2021.08.27

“Fringed orchid” is one of Japan’s leading orchids that blooms white and neat flowers. The cool blooming at the water’s edge brings coolness to the viewer in the harsh heat.

Fringed orchid(Orchidaceae)
It is a perennial plant that is distributed from Honshu to Kyushu and grows in lowland sunny wetlands. The height is 20 cm to 40 cm. The name comes from the appearance of a Shirasagi flying with its wings spread.
Once common in wetlands around the world, it has plummeted with the development of wetlands and is classified as Near Threatened (NT) in the Ministry of the Environment’s Red Data Book.

In Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden’s wetland plant area, we have set up an area that reproduces the wetland that once existed on Mt. Rokko, and in addition to Egret flower, we display Mt. Rokko native plants such as Sawagikyo and Penthorum. The white egret flower of our garden is expected to be enjoyed until the end of August.
