[Hoshinoya Okinawa] “Ryukyu Curing” that balances the mind and body with the power of Okinawan culture and nature

2021.11.03

At “Hoshinoya Okinawa”, from December 1, 2021, we will start the wellness program “Ryukyu Curing” to train and nourish with “the power of Okinawa”. After staying for 3 nights and 4 days, I aim to be in a state where my mind and body are stable and I can enjoy the balance of tension and relaxation on my own.

Experience a wave of tension and relaxation

When a person is under stress such as anxiety or fear, he or she unknowingly exerts strength on the body and feels physical and mental disorders such as physical pain and insomnia. An effective way to relieve this tension is to repeat tension and relaxation like waves.
I am aiming for a state where I can balance the waves with my own power even when I return to my daily life.

Floating bath in the infinity pool

Experience a floating bath in the infinity pool overlooking the sea. You can feel the calmness of your body and mind by relaxing your body, floating on the water, and repeating deep breathing. The pool is heated so it is comfortable even in the chilly season. Heal the tiredness of traveling and prepare to be able to participate in the program smoothly.

"Hama walking" walking along the natural coast dyed in the setting sun

We will walk on the natural coast that spreads in front of Hoshinoya Okinawa. Walking on a sandy beach puts more pressure than usual, and you can feel the load on your body. Enjoy a 30-minute walk while enjoying the view of the west coast with a beautiful sunset.

After walking on the beach and eating, we will have an oil treatment at the spa.

Ryukyu Karate training that raises tension

On the second day of the big waves of tension and relaxation, you will experience Ryukyu Karate, a martial art that originated in Okinawa. The place to experience is the dojo in the facility of Hoshinoya Okinawa. Focusing on breathing, posture, and consciousness, you will also learn how to learn karate for the purpose of self-discipline while repeating pattern movements.

Shiatsu and Awamori evening drink to enjoy in the guest room

After the training, the body is relaxed by the acupuncture and moxibustion acupuncture menu by a nationally qualified acupuncture and moxibustion teacher. The treatment is performed according to each individual condition, and the body is adjusted by daily life and karate training.

Ryukyu dance practice that is conscious of supple movement and physical stability

Ryukyu dance, a traditional culture unique to Okinawa, is a form of hospitality nurtured through trade with other countries such as China. You will learn supple movements while understanding the feelings contained in the movements and the background of the song.

Oil treatment that incorporates the rhythm of dance and time for herbal tea to look back on your stay

After practicing Ryukyu dance, you can heal your tiredness with an oil treatment that incorporates the rhythm of Ryukyu dance.

Breakfast that creates vitality "Medicinal food Konabe breakfast"

For breakfast, we will provide “Medicinal Konabe Breakfast” in the guest room, which can recharge the vitality of spending the day. Based on the soup stock of bonito and kelp, add a soup stock bag filled with ingredients familiar to Okinawa such as shell ginger, irabu, and turmeric, and enjoy the soup full of flavor.

"Medicinal food set" that prepares the mind and body overcoming big waves

For dinner on the second day, which is the biggest wave, we will serve “medicinal food set”. While preparing the food, herbs and spices such as hooch bar (yomogi), pea palm (island pepper), and island pepper are made into a paste in a mortar and oil is added to make the original “medicinal oil”. The finished medicinal oil is boiled in mars with fish that traps the flavor of seafood, and you can enjoy the rich taste and aroma. Slowly enjoy a set of sugar cane rice and small bowls in your room to prepare your mind and body.

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
