[Japan’s starry sky, Achi Village, Nagano] Summer Sweets Using Local Ingredients Jointly Planned and Released

From Saturday, July 30, 2022, collaboration sweets of Nagoya Sangyo University Faculty of Contemporary Business students and Yurui no Yado Eyama will be on sale for a limited time. This product is a product planned in collaboration with Achi Hirugami Tourist Bureau Co., Ltd. and Yurui no Yado Eyama, by conducting voluntary training using the free time of the work experience and using local ingredients for summer sweets.

Shaved ice of tomatoes from Achi village

The key point in the Tomato Shaved Ice is the tomatoes we use as ingredients. The reason is that we use the ones that we put out at the local direct sales market. Commercial tomatoes are harvested one step before maturity before they are put out for sale, but the direct sales outlets harvest them after they are fully red, so they are sweeter and more nutritious because they receive nutrients from the seedlings for longer than commercial tomatoes.

In addition, factors such as Achi Village’s unique “Achi Organic Certification System” and the large difference in temperatures due to the mountainous region allow for a vigorous crop. Tomatoes themselves are sweeter than others, so we use less sugar, which is good for our health.

Blueberry mini parfait from Achi village

The point of the product is to not let the sweetness of the blueberries get in the way. In making the ice cream, we used products from Neba Village in Minami-Shinshu, where the sweetness is reduced so that the blueberries do not diminish.

Hirugami Onsen, Yurui no Yado Keizan

A hot spring inn in a village where the best star in Japan can be seen shining, certified by the Ministry of the Environment. You can see the stars in the sky from the open-air bath with large rocks.
For meals, kaiseki cuisine using local ingredients from Minami Shinshu, and hearth dishes that are grilled over charcoal fire so that you can enjoy the original taste of the ingredients by sticking to the local ingredients.
“Yurui” is a dialect of the hearth, and this word expresses the gentle hospitality of a little closer to the hearth.

ZIPANGU Contemporary artists who have run through the Heisei era” Takashi Murakami x Sueo Mizuma dialogue: ‘Beyond the Theory of Artistic Entrepreneurship’ / Interview with Mr. Mizuma: ‘Rediscovering the Value of Japanese Culture by the Japanese People

The Hiroshima Museum of Art is hosting the exhibition “ZIPANGU: Contemporary Artists Who Defined the Heisei Era” (November 2, 2024 – December 22, 2024). This showcase brings together works by some of the most prominent figures in Japan’s contemporary art scene, including Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, Yoshitomo Nara, Chiharu Shiota, Izumi Kato, Akira Yamaguchi, and Miwa Komatsu. The exhibition has already garnered significant attention, exceeding 10,000 visitors.

HYAKKEI covered the dialogue between contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and Sueo Mizuma, the curator of this exhibition, held at the RIHGA Royal Hotel Hiroshima. We also conducted an exclusive interview with Mr. Mizuma.

The discussions centered on the aspirations behind the ZIPANGU exhibition and offered forward-looking insights, not only into Japan’s art world but also into the rediscovery of value within Japanese culture by its people.

Two types of autumn-only red seals, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, are now available at Daisho-in Temple, Miyajima, a World Heritage island.

Two types of paper seals made exclusively for autumn, ‘Chrysanthemum and Tanzaku’ and ‘Autumn Leaves and Candles’, have been available since Monday 9 September at Daisho-in Temple on the World Heritage island of Miyajima. Quantities are limited and will run out as soon as they are gone.
