Launch of a new liquor brand ‘kagan’ using Okinawan ingredients.

Minamijima Shuppan Co Ltd has launched a liquor brand ‘kagan’ for bars and restaurants using ‘Tankan’ produced in Motobu-cho, Okinawa Prefecture. The first 300 bottles were produced in limited quantities and launched nationwide on Wednesday 19 March 2025.

Kagan’ means “mirror” in the Okinawan dialect, and the name of the brand means that the sake is a mirror of the local climate. kagan is a brand of alcoholic beverages that utilises ingredients unique to subtropical Okinawa and reflects the various attractions of the island. As a product range for professionals in Okinawa and beyond, it will maximise the potential of the prefecture’s ingredients.

kagan Vol. 01 Tankan Spirits

The process involves soaking multiple distillations of Awamori with Tankan and Karaki (Okinawan Nikkei/Cinnamon) respectively, then distilling and blending again.

With approximately 2 mandarins per bottle, the flavour of tropical ripe mandarins and the natural aroma of ripe citrus fruits are easily recognisable. As well as being used in authentic cocktails, it can also be enjoyed with food by simply mixing it with carbonated lemonade, tonic water or sanpin tea.
