This year, which is expected to raise awareness and interest around the world, will be a “winning year” for Miya carpenters throughout Japan who are in danger of lack of successors and market shrinkage.

K&A chair-Kakishibu & flaxseed oil chair-

Japan, where about 70% of the land is forests, is a woodworking technology powerhouse rarely seen in the world where people used to make things around them for more than 2000 years before modernizing them.

Especially in traditional wooden construction, a technique unique to Japan, “to form a habit of wood,” which is kind to people and the natural environment, such as not using nails, has been created through many years of ingenuity.

Japan’s proud traditional architectural craftsmanship was selected as a candidate for a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in 2020, but the number of Miya carpenters who inherited it has continued to decline, and it has not been socially recognized so far. did.

We hope that as many people as possible will know the skills of traditional architects so as not to lose the traditional techniques accumulated up to now, and the thoughts and wisdom contained in them.
By spreading the recognition of the skills of traditional architects, we hope to expand the fields of activity for Miya carpenters.

LOF wants to bring it to everyone in the form of “furniture designed by the carpenter from scratch” so that the skills of traditional architectural craftsmen can be felt even closer.
