From 25 Oct (Fri) to 8 Dec (Sun), 2024, a pop-up shop for miffy café tokyo will be held in Umeda, Osaka.
Soma Nomaoi will be held this summer with no audience to reduce the size of the new coronavirus. Therefore, we wanted to make Soma Nomaoi familiar to as many people as possible, and we wanted to contribute to the dissemination of the equestrian culture that lives in the area. A part of the sales will be donated to the Soma Nomaoi Executive Committee.
Gatch Co., Ltd., a trading company that specializes in delivering traditional Japanese industries to more people, is a potter “Ohori Soma Ware Matsunaga Kiln” that supports business operations such as product development, manufacturing, distribution, and retail in-house. We are pleased to announce that we will start the sale of a new product with “Kawarake” arranged to coincide with the traditional event “Soma Nomaoi”.
The traditional event “Soma Nomaoi” in the Sosou region of Fukushima Prefecture, which boasts a history of over 1,000 years, is a tradition that marks the beginning of summer for the locals. As the annual festival of Soma Nakamura Shrine, Soma Ota Shrine, and Soma Odaka Shrine, it is held every last Saturday and Sunday in July, and wishes for regional peace. It is also designated as an important intangible folk cultural property of the country.
It is said that Taira Shomon, who was originally the ancestor of the Soma Nakamura clan, originated in military training to capture wild horses that had been released in the wilderness and devoted the captured horses to God.
During the event, the town became full color with Noma Oiichi, and while the conch and drums reverberate, more than 500 cavalry warriors wearing swords on their waists and ancestral flagships on their backs were launched. It is gorgeous that you can run toward the Okami flag.
From the perspective of preventing the spread of new coronavirus infections in 2020, it has been decided to reduce the scale and carry out only shrines within the shrine grounds with no audience.
It means “a cup of unglazed rice” that is used when drinking sake. It is known for the Soma Noma expedition team to drink sake to “kawarake” and then break it out. At the center is the Soma domain crest, “Kyuyo no crest,” which is still used in ceremonies. If you drink it, use it as it is unglazed without applying glaze etc.
Each year after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Ohori Soma Ware Matsunaga Kiln produces this “kawarake”. Due to the influence of the new coronavirus, in front of Nomaoi this summer, which will be reduced in size and open to the public, Soma Nomaoi will be felt closer to you and contribute to the dissemination of the horse riding culture that lives in the area. We have created a new product with an arrangement.
From July 17th to August 31st, 100 yen will be donated to the Soma Nomaoi Executive Committee for each sale.
・This is a small-sized plate with a simple “kawarake” featuring the Soma domain crest “Kyuyo no crest” and three colors of glaze.

Ohori Soma ware is a traditional craft in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, which has continued since the Genroku Edo period. It features a “crack” that is a fine crack that spreads over the surface of a celadon-colored pottery, and a “double burn” structure that is formed by stacking two vessels. Along with its beautiful appearance, it also retains heat and cold, and has been loved for a long time. The cool sound when a thin glass film breaks and cracks are also selected as the “30 scenes of Utsushima.” The Soma domain “Okami horse” called “Left horse” is drawn, and it is said to be auspicious because it means “nothing on the right”, and it has been popular in the area for a long time.
“Ohori Soma Ware Matsunaga Kiln” originally had its kiln in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, but after the earthquake, it moved to Saigo Village, Fukushima Prefecture and continues to manufacture and sell ware.
