Founded 149 years ago, a fascinating encounter with Kintsuba and shaved ice using homemade anko from “Mataichian”

2020.06.28

“Mataichian Sohonten”, a long-established Japanese confectionery shop with a history of 149 years since its establishment, is run by Mataichian Co., Ltd. The “Mataicco-tabetai Cafe” where you can enjoy a new sense of “Kintsuba sweets” in Hokkaido. From June 12 (Friday), we will start selling a new sense of shaved ice using homemade anko, which is cooked using only fragrant red beans from Tokachi.

It goes well with homemade milk ice made in order to enjoy the traditional bean paste that craftsmen inherit in a delicious summer season!
We have prepared 4 kinds of “Roofed Anmitsu Koori”, “Kuromitsu Kinako Koori-Homemade Azuki Warabi Mochi Nose”, “Shizuoka Matcha Kintoki Koori”, and “Strawberry condensed milk Koori-Mizudaifuku Nose”.
In addition, at Mataicco-tabetai Cafe, in order to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infection and to ensure the safety and health of customers and employees, alcohol disinfection at the time of entering the store, limitation of the number of seats, vinyl sheet at the checkout place We will set up and exchange bills using the coin tray.

"Rooster Anmitsu Koori" 1,200 yen (tax included)

A delicious combination of anmitsu and shaved ice. Using the original Western-style agar scented with black honey, vanilla, and lemon, five colorful types of yellow brim “Irodori Kintsuba” and kiwi, yellow peach, pine, cherries, and bean sprouts are scattered like a jewel. It is a shaved ice that you can enjoy various tastes each time you eat.
The Wasanbon sugar syrup was scented with lemon to give it a refreshing taste.

"Kuromitsu Kinako Koori-Homemade Azuki Warabi Mochi Nose" 1,100 yen (tax included)

In addition to the excellent compatibility of kinako and black honey, I also put Ichian’s popular summer product “Azuki Warabi Mochi” on a skewer and boldly placed it.
Enjoy a yo-gurt-style milk sauce with a light sweetness and enjoy a Japanese-Western collaboration.

"Shizuoka Matcha Kintoki Koori" 1,100 yen (tax included)

The red bean sauce modified for shaved ice was put on a syrup, and syrup using the fragrant matcha from Shizuoka prefecture was sprinkled on it. I’m irresistible to love Anko! Since green tea is also used in the syrup that comes with it, you can enjoy a deeper taste of green tea with “Oppai green tea”.

"Strawberry condensed milk Koori-Water Daifuku nose-" 1,100 yen (tax included)

The standard shaved ice “strawberry milk” is arranged in the Ichian style. Plenty of strawberry sauce that goes well with homemade milk ice, and the shaved ice tops were served with fresh cream in the image of a summer cloud on the road and Mochipur texture of the original “Mizudaifuku”. Enjoy the condensed dairy sauce (milk) with the attached strawberry sauce.

Commitment to material

We use only large varieties of red beans, which were selected for the making of Kintsuba, from a contract farm in Tokachi, Hokkaido. Cook carefully until the skin swells without crushing. The red bean grains are shiny and shiny, giving it the original taste of red beans.

Eighty Years After the War: A Reflection on the Preciousness of Ordinary Life YUKIKAZE – In Theaters Nationwide from August 15, 2025

“To Return Alive, To Bring Others Home Alive”

Opening nationwide on August 15, 2025—marking eighty years since the end of World War II—YUKIKAZE is a feature film based on the true story of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) destroyer Yukikaze, a vessel that rescued countless lives amid the horrors of war. A press screening was held in advance at the Sony Pictures screening room.

The destroyer Yukikaze, which served throughout the Pacific War, was renowned for rescuing numerous sailors thrown into the sea during fierce naval battles, surviving to the end of the war virtually unscathed. It earned the legendary moniker “the lucky ship.” This film brings to life the ship’s heroic journey, alongside the lives of those who persevered through one of the most turbulent eras in modern history.

Leading the cast is Yutaka Takenouchi as Captain Kazutoshi Terasawa—a fictional amalgamation inspired by the real-life captains of Yukikaze. Hiroshi Tamaki portrays Petty Officer First Class Kohei Hayase. Supporting roles are delivered by an ensemble of acclaimed actors including Daiken Okudaira, Rena Tanaka, Kanji Ishimaru, and Toru Masuoka. Kiichi Nakai delivers a commanding performance as Vice Admiral Seiichi Itō, the Second Fleet Commander of the IJN who met his fate aboard the battleship Yamato.

In today’s world, once again shaken by division and violence, YUKIKAZE poses an urgent question to those of us living in the peace that others fought to protect: Are we once again treading the path of past mistakes? As collective memory of the war fades, this film becomes ever more vital—a call to reflect on the true value of peace.
