[ANCHOR HOTEL FUKUYAMA] A special August breakfast menu starring somen noodles, a tradition dating back to the Edo period.

2024.08.05

This summer, as soon as the rainy season ends, there are signs of a heat wave in the air. Anchor Hotel Fukuyama is offering an August only breakfast menu [Kamogawa hand-pulled somen noodles with three kinds of homemade sauce and Fukuyama-grown vegetables].

Traditional ‘Kamogawa hand-pulled somen’.

The somen noodles used are Kamogawa hand-pulled somen noodles, a speciality of Kamogata-cho, Asakuchi, Okayama Prefecture, and well known to the people of Fukuyama. The firmness and smoothness characteristic of hand-pulled noodles make them ideal for breakfast in summer, when people’s appetites tend to wane.

Three types of homemade noodle soup (Japanese-style soup with dashi broth, ratatouille soup with locally grown vegetables, and soy milk tantan tsuyu with homemade raayu) are also included, along with condiments to enjoy the variety of flavours.

Dessert is a two-layer panna cotta with homemade plum jam. The fresh plum flavour and gentle sweetness will fill your mouth.

Iide Town, Yamagata Prefecture] “Submerged Forest of Lake Shirakawa,” a Mysterious Spring-Only Scene

The mysterious scenery of Lake Shirakawa in the town of Iide in southern Yamagata Prefecture can be seen only during two months in spring. In spring, a large amount of melt water flows into Lake Shirakawa from the Iide mountain range, one of Japan’s 100 most famous mountains, where there is heavy snowfall. When the lake is full of water, it creates a fantastic sight of white willow trees as if they are growing out of the water.
