Hoshino Resort Iriomotejima Hotel aims to become “Japan’s first eco-tourism resort” on Iriomotejima Island, which is registered as a World Natural Heritage site. A commemorative plan will be on sale to allow guests to enjoy learning about the charms and values of the island through guided tours and a stay in the great outdoors.
Iriomote Island is a subtropical island surrounded by coral reefs and 90% covered by jungle. Many endemic and endangered species grow and inhabit the island, including the Iriomote wild cat, which is a national special natural treasure.
The island was registered as a World Natural Heritage site on July 26, 2021, in recognition of its “biodiversity” nurtured by the connections among various natural environments. One year has passed since its registration, and we hope you will enjoy learning about the charm and value of Iriomote Island, which has been inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site.
We will prepare a tour to find out why Iriomote Island was registered as a World Natural Heritage site, starting with the Iriomote wildcat, a symbol of the island’s biodiversity.
We will visit the Iriomote Wildlife Conservation Center and deepen our knowledge of the Iriomote wild cat and other rare creatures that live on the island by seeing their stuffed exhibits and materials. In addition, a professional guide will explain the ecology of the Iriomote wildcat from its tracks. Visitors can learn in depth why the Iriomote wildcat was able to survive on this island and why Iriomote Island is an important area for biodiversity conservation.
Visitors will go to “Iriomote Wildlife Conservation Center” and deepen their knowledge of Iriomote wild cat and other rare creatures that live on the island by looking at the stuffed exhibits and materials.
In addition, a professional guide will explain the ecology of Iriomote wild cat from its tracks. Visitors can learn in depth why the Iriomote wildcat was able to survive on this island and why Iriomote Island is an important area for biodiversity conservation.
The hotel guide staff, who are well versed in the nature of Iriomote Island, will propose a stay suited to the individual.
Iriomote Island is rich in fields such as the sea where you can see colorful coral reefs and colorful fish, majestic mangrove forests, and jungles with many living creatures. Hearings are held in advance to determine what activities are best suited for you and what the island’s natural seasonal highlights are. We will support you in fully enjoying the charm and value of the island.
An illustrated book introducing rare creatures of Iriomote Island, an eco-friendly insect repellent spray, and a water bottle that can be used repeatedly will be presented in a sakosh.
These outing items allow you to enjoy your stay while protecting the natural environment of Iriomotejima, a World Natural Heritage site. We recommend that you take the items with you to explore the jungle within the hotel grounds and the beach that stretches out in front of the hotel.
With the cooperation of “Piccio,” a group of experts on wild flora and fauna that contributes to the conservation of biodiversity, hotel staff who live in Iriomote Island will tell you why Iriomote Island was registered as a World Natural Heritage site. By knowing the correct reason why Iriomote Island was registered as a World Natural Heritage site, you can enjoy your stay on the island more deeply.
