“Hoshinoya Kyoto” will hold “Hoshinoya Momiji-ga” again this year, under the 400-year-old giant maple tree, where you can enjoy the elegant dances and ethereal sounds of gagaku (court music) depicted in the Tale of Genji (Tale of Genji).

Autumn leaves in the inner garden, colored as in the scene of "Autumn Leaves" in the Tale of Genji

Arashiyama has long been known for its beautiful autumn foliage, and has been the setting for numerous waka poems. The scene of Hikaru Genji’s elegant dance performance and the view from the garden in the back of the house overlap, inviting visitors to a scene from the Tale of Genji, a tale of elegance.

In the “Momijiga” of The Tale of Genji, Hikaru Genji and the head chujo danced a dance called Aomiha. The costume used only for the Aomiha dance is characterized by embroidered waves and plovers all over the costume, and even the sheath of the sword, which is the dance tool, is decorated with waves and plovers.
