It is a cultural experience that can be said to be the culmination of the world that has been particular about “hospitality unique to the area and the season”, and is scheduled to be held at 4 facilities each season in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
In spring, which will be the start, we will prepare four experiences such as painting experience of rock paint by a traditional craftsman who is restoring historical buildings such as Nikko Toshogu, full-scale tea picking in the tea plantation during the new tea season, and tea making experience. doing. We hope that you will take the opportunity of a valuable trip to directly experience the culture and history of the area and the polite skills of the craftsmen and producers who have spun it, and enrich your trip.
Since the birth of the brand in 2011, the world has emphasized “hospitality unique to the region and the season”, and the guest room “local room” where you can enjoy the preparations unique to the region and the activity “local crafts” where you can enjoy traditional crafts and performing arts while staying in the hall. We have provided “local music”.
The staff of the world will be able to learn more about the roots of the culture from local craftsmen, writers, and producers who have cooperated with us so far, and we will show you the polite handicrafts up close. I have had the experience of discovering things in Japan, enriching my feelings, and feeling more attached to the area.
Based on that experience, we planned a “moment of handicrafts” with the desire for guests to come into contact with local craftsmen, writers, producers and their skills and experience a deeper cultural experience. It is a private cultural experience for a limited time with a limited number of people, where craftsmen, writers, producers and staff will carefully consider and select the time and place suitable for the experience.
In “Moment of Handicrafts”, we invite local professionals who have collaborated with the world, such as craftsmen of traditional crafts, sake brewers, and artists who work on art, to show off their skills specially, and their roots. Ask them to explain their detailed knowledge in an easy-to-understand manner.
It is also an attraction unique to this project that you can see the tools and materials that support craftsmanship.
We limit the number of participating groups and the number of people so that we can receive a polite guide from craftsmen and producers and have conversations. Since you can experience a friendly atmosphere, it is easy to communicate and it is also attractive to be able to know the lifestyle and personality of craftsmen and producers.
We plan to hold 16 “handicraft moments” by February 2022 at 4 facilities in each season in spring, summer, autumn and winter. The contents that can be experienced are not limited to traditional crafts and folk art, but also include harvesting experiences, factory tours, and art.
By experiencing various “handicraft moments” held in the world, you can experience the techniques of various parts of Japan, and each time you discover something, you can feel the trip to Japan even more richly.
KAI Nikko (Chuzenji Onsen, Tochigi Prefecture)
“Traditional craftsmen involved in the restoration of shrines and temples and Nikko coloring experience”
Under the guidance of Miho Ihara, a female traditional craftsman who has been involved in the repair of historic buildings such as Nikko Toshogu, we use precious materials such as rock paints that are actually used in the shrines and temples of Nikko. We will make crafts.
While experiencing it, you can listen to explanations about the colorful colors and designs that color the shrines and temples, and then you can visit the shrines and temples from a different perspective. “New tea picking and tea making experience where you can feel the blessings of nature”
With the motto of making tea that is kind to nature, we will go to the “Marutama Tea” farm, which consistently grows tea leaves and makes tea, in the early summer when tea sprouts appear, and experience tea picking. While receiving guidance from a tea professional who is a tea professional, the soft sprouts are picked one by one by hand and carefully rubbed into tea leaves. The finished tea can be enjoyed with the original Japanese sweets from the tea shop.
You can see that the tea that you usually drink casually is made through various processes and careful handwork by the skill of the tea master.
In addition, after returning to KAI Enshu, you can have a blending experience “Gogumi” using multiple tea leaves of “Marutama Tea” in your room.
