[Sasagamine Kogen in autumn leaves] Guided hiking tours in the footsteps of our ancestors who lived with the forest

2022.09.18

LIME RESORT MYOKO, which is based on the concept of “getting healthy through your stay,” now offers an accommodation plan that includes a walking tour of the Sasagamine Plateau, located on the border between Niigata and Nagano prefectures, to trace the footsteps of our ancestors who lived in the forests from ancient times and the nature of the high mountains.

Sasagamine Plateau is a basin-shaped highland area located about 20 minutes (by car) from LIME RESORT MYOKO.
Located at an elevation of 1,300 meters, people began to come to this mountainous area around the Edo period (1603-1867), and eventually sawmills were established and forestry workers lived deep in the mountains. Walking along a boardwalk built on a former railroad track through a forest of giant beech and mizunara oak trees, one comes to the border with Nagano Prefecture near the Hizawa River, where a huge old katsura tree, which could be called the elder of the forest, stands quietly.

From mid-October, the trees in the forest begin to change their leaves to beautiful red and golden colors, which can be enjoyed in a relaxing atmosphere. Unlike mountain climbing, walking in the Sasagamine Plateau is relatively flat, and anyone who has the stamina to walk for about 4 hours can participate.
