From March 1st to May 31st, 2023, Hoshinoya Okinawa, a stay-type resort located in Yomitan Village, Okinawa Prefecture, will hold a “Ryukyu Bingata Stay” where you can experience the profound charm of Bingata production by learning from craftsmen.
*Ryukyu Bingata = Okinawan dyed goods
Appreciate the Ryukyuan dance that unravels the history of Bingata from the gorgeous stage costumes
Bingata, which was once used for women’s costumes and ceremonial clothes in charge of Shinto rituals, developed into stage costumes when the Ryukyu culture flourished.
The Bingata stage costumes depict creatures from myths and legends, such as snow that does not fall in Okinawa, phoenixes, and dragons.
Learn the beauty of Bingata and experience the craftsmanship at the workshop
Bingata production is done in a studio in a separate room from the accommodation.
A special lunch that arranges royal court cuisine related to bingata
A special lunch prepared by the chef of HOSHINOYA Okinawa that arranges the imperial court dish “Sefan (vegetable meal)” served with dashi soup.
Tea and sweets will be delivered in the afternoon, and the work will be created while taking a short break.
